First signs of an easterly here now.

The winds are coming from the east now, the temp is falling after reaching 4.9ºC at 11am and the dew point is dropping quickly. Now 0.9ºC after reaching 3.2ºC at 9am

Cold and mostly cloudy throughout with penetrating overnight frosts. Mostly dry although occasional snow flurries are expected with slight accumulations possible in parts of Kent. Bitter easterly winds.

I realy wouldn't get your hopes up for the next few days. Every proferssional forecast ive seen / read goes for only scattered wintry flurries. Skew-T charts etc don't allow for cloud tops to get high enough to allow anything dynamic or of any intensity. I honestly can't foresee there being many snowmen built or sledges used in the next week. Would love to be proven wrong though

My ears will be burning anyway, probably through the cold if not the 'behind my back' chatter laugh.png Still could go either way, but expect nothing, be happy if you get something.

Anything it would seem will be a bonus, off out now to experience the east wind, back in later to enjoy the next set of runs I think! wallbash.gif

Tim - there are bound to be areas of our region that will see a few inches. they may be very localised but they will exist. alas, our little backwater is not favoured.

I'm struggling to find why there would be a reason opposing a Thames streamer cropping up. It looks exactly identical to 2009:

Yes, my area did very badly out of this event (or so I was told, as I was in Mauritius at the timebiggrin.png ) and we've had better snow in every subsequent year.

My old man is from Mauritius:-) December is best time to go there. If we have a crap summer I will be heading there by the end of the year!

I've found a local weather station online that says temp 4.6, dew point -7.2 that sounds extreme!

i don't know how accurate this is but it shows dp of -8.1!

Saturday looks perfect for a Thames streamer there, unless I have read the chart wrong that looks like the perfect ENE flow off the continent to send a shower train from holland straight down the estuary

And for any of you thames streamer fans out there:

post-1038-0-96772100-1361353042_thumb.pn

Note - that is VERY light precipitation though - we are not talking anything more than a covering

SK

^^

Still there on the 6z NMM run too

Still very light but could well see a covering into Friday morning given the very low dew points

How do those charts show increased snow potential Jason? I don't know how to read them, unfortunately. wacko.png

They don't say a huge amount tbh - fundamentally the intensity of precipitation, from what I can see, isn't shown, which is pretty important in a snow event.

Blue symbols would be snow. Green dots must be rain or marginal - interesting how the north coasts of East Anglia change between the days here. The barbs tell you wind direction and force. The red dotted line indicates surface temperature (looks to be about zero C, unless I need glassesunsure.png ) There's also sea level pressure indicated too.

Stop trying to predict a streamer!

First - you can't

Second - you will curse it!
