-3'C out there at the moment, winter clinging on. The vast majority of nights in March got below freezing here, a real cold one!

Couple pictures to say cheerio to winter:

From space, the Monadh Liath mountains and the Cairngorms with Inverness and Loch Ness to the west and the hills of Sutherland to the north.

So that's it. The last day of calm before normal service is resumed. I think I'll save myself some effort and lodge a default 'when will it stop raining?' comment here for the next six months. See you in October! wink.png

At long last we have energy in the Atlantic, satellite of the trough.

Delivers some decent long trail South Westerlies, the last MJO movement created an easterly anomaly across Africa meaning that warm air getting healthily mixed across out into the Atlantic, will fuel the Azores to pounce at any given moment.

Temperatures safely above double digits tomorrow, could be the shot of adrenaline Spring needs to get off the Winter operating table.

Sunshine in Embra... out for a walk earlier and if I go out again I'll not bother with the jacket - still a bit nippy for April but distinctly warmer in the sun than in the last month!

Even winterholics like me need spring to arrive eventually... hope it warms the soil up fast enough for NL to get sowing!

I think there will still be a few wintry days left. There is a rumour on the main forum that a northern high might sink south some time in the next 2 weeks. This could deliver chilly dry air with wintry showers. I just hope tomorrows mush doesn't ruin the ski centres.I have one last trip to Glencoe planned and the snow is to return there after midnight on Sunday.

Yes that's the worst part about these changes to mild weather. You always have to endure a day or two of fretting whilst the hairdriers do their worst.

On the plus side, the snowpack really does need a thaw (and then hopefully a freeze) to allow it to consolidate. The avalanche risk has been high for so long now and it'd be nice to have it downgraded smile.png

Yep funny to look at the radar and see a big front approaching with no excitement whatsoever, as it will definitely be rain as opposed to a possible big dump which turned out to be hours of snow with a couple of cms settling!

Aye was over East Kilbride today (Scottish Museum of Rural Life) and started getting very grey about 3pm, but was a nice day before that.

We really need some warmth as the land looks so barron still and we are half way through April

No not wishful thinking currently 10c and dull.  The old farmhouse is like a fridge as you step outside the warmth hits you in the face.   Birds   absolutely singing their hearts out in celebration.

Well spring hasn't so much sprung but rather exploded this morning.

a bit of a damp squib I'd say - started raining mid-evening and everything's damp now. Birds all quiet here...

Such a change in the air though, very nice smell to the air, can't wait to get some good sunshine in!

Heavy bursts of rain. Strong SW wind and a temp in double figures. [10.4C].

A long time since I have noted any of the above weather stats. The last double figure temp was 2nd March and before that the 8th January.

Birds much quieter now since light rain came on about an hour ago and the merest sign of a hint of green in the newly washed grass fields but still a long way from turning out the cattle.
