Its been a busy day in the airspace of the South East today. Following on from this mornings emergency landing at Heathrow by a BA flight ( engine fire ), a PIA flight has been diverted to Stansted with an Raf fighter jet escort. 2 men on board arrested

Yep, it's coming through here too. What a terrible week all around, I hope we don't have much more of this kind of thing about to descend upon us - it seems like a very dark time for many folks.

Some of this rain is heavier than even I expected!

What a horrible day! Feels like March, not May. Temp has not gone above 8C here on the Staines Riviera with some heavy bursts of rain. Not much wind, looks like the centre of the low passing overhead moving SSW. If cold and snow on winter here means crap summers then go stick the cold and snow somewhere far away!

.............. Much brighter here now, the rain has stopped so the clearance should be heading your way soon Posted Image

I spoke too soon. The earlier clearance seems to have been the centre of the Low passing over London. The trailing edge is now bringing further rain and gusty winds after a brief respite. Sorry

Just got back from Gatwick Airport. Terrible weather and appalling drivers out there. Visibility was less than 100m and the idiots were still doing 80mph chucking up awful spray and making driving even more difficult Posted Image

We had a 15 minute lull in the rain here in Reigate but now it is coming down hard again.  Could be worse - I could be doing my usual journey home along the M25 which I have just seen has 30 miles of queues in both directions on the Surrey stretch.  Roll on tomorrow when we all get the chance to dry out...

One of the many reasons I'm glad I drive a Volvo. Frankly I'm suprised that after all these years a lot of other car manufacturers have failed to catch up with the fact that permanent Daylight Running Lights ( DRL's ) are an invaluable safety feature.

Back to the weather, the switch around as the centre of the Low has passed more or less directly over London has been really noticeable. As you would expect the winds have completely reversed. Bad as it's been I would call this quite an interesting weather day.

Extra layers today - my summer tops are still waiting to be used properly yet this season, and my pumps are not built for wading through lakesPosted Image It seems that sales in shops are also being held back on summer clothes as people invest in waterproofs insteadPosted Image

I really don't know how you do that drive all the time. For the past 5 years I have had to drive my son from Surbiton to his special school in Uxbridge daily, and as a result have developed huge levels of anxiety about driving and chronic fatigue syndrome. Cars are lethal weapons as Jan alluded to above and I wish people would develop more respect for them.Still raining in Surbiton and the dog is wondering when he is going out for his walk.

Hi Reef, I try to work at home 2 days a week if I can which helps but certainly at the start (been doing this job/journey for more than 5 years) I found it very stressful and tiring.  The advantage of working at home also includes being able to take a shot like this one, lowering skies over Colley Hill taken from just about our front door (the evil M25 is just behind the hills in the distance):

Its not every day I get to see a steam train chugging along the railway line right next to my flat here in the outer suburbs, but I did tonight.

Actually it used to be an annual event on the May Bank Holiday weekend until a few years ago, but Tfl put a stop to it. It seems it's made a comeback this year, though unpublicised as far as I can see.

Its not a replica either, its a proper full on steam engine, pulling original carriages. It was heading out of London tonight, and if previous years are anything to go by it should be making several trips back and forth at some time this weekend. I live literally feet away from the track so I really hope to get some photo's of it. Just a shame it wasn't better publicised.

Finally took the dog out and yes, of course, it poured down within a minute of stepping out followed by two good rolls of thunder! First time to see what the dog is like in rain and thunder and... he didn't seem to notice apart from plentifully shaking himself down.

Further to my earlier post about the steam train on the Metropolitan Line, well it's just passed my flat again making the return journey and will be making a number of return trips between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

Not weather related I know, but it might interest some train enthusiasts or others in the area this weekend

And still it rains.  An early morning walk looks a good bet tomorrow, there will probably be plenty of dampness in the air, but hopefully a gentle drying out and a gradual warming through the day.  The odd day like today is ok as an exception but, please, no more than that....
