It's currently looking as if parts of Wilts could encounter some storm development during this evening especially as some echoes are now appearing there. These should drift north.

This is looking west just south of Salisbury. Just missed me.

An evening of Radar watching first signs of things beginning to become unstable on the radar. I haven't heard the Sheffield Shield go up yet. It was caught out by a stealth storm earlier which sneaked into the area by not producing any lightening then decided to let rip for a short while. Annoyed the shield powdered up and kicked it eastward where it produced plenty of lightening and rain. Anyway I suspect the shield will have another firmware update to prevent sneaky attacks like that and will be ready to shred any storms that dare to approach or happily deflect the more nervous storms around Sheffield so they can pulverize places like Barnsley or Leeds.

I hope the shield malfunctions. It's been years since Sheffield had a good storm. Fingers crossed for a miracle! Radar and strike watching driving me crazy.

Can somebody post a link of this cell over Bournemouth? I'd like to know whether it's worth getting in the car with the camera because I know a good vantage point in this part of Dorset towards Bournemouth.

The problem with an MCS is that all we get here is an annoying blanket of cloud which stifles everything, once upon a time they were good little MCSs and woke me up at about 4am. They need remedial classes.....Posted Image

I wouldn't bother butler_son. I can see it from here. It doesn't look that exciting yet.

Edit - Ha. Just as I post that, we get the first big rumble from it.

I can't remember which year it was but the last good storm blew my up my neighbours alarm caused arcing in my mothers hearing aid loop system. It brewed up directly over us lasted several hours then suddenly stopped. We've had one storm that promised much in the last hot spell many years ago. Two houses got struck just as it edged into the area my Lightening detector could hardly keep up with the strikes the radar said direct hit and then it split going either side of Sheffield leaving us light rain and the odd weak flash and a gusty wind. At least that reached most died at the top of Dronfield bypass in recent years.

First Ac beginning to arrive here after a very stable looking day.

Curious to see if and what blows up this evening...estofex as I've said have been on the money much of this year and Tuschy rarely slaps us under a 50%/Level 1 zone.

All indicators have been for 18z inwards and in particular 00z onwards...furthermore MLCAPE in particular is expected to stay at ludicrous levels throughout the night..let the passing of the peak heating not be a concern. We are fast approaching initiation period so eyes on skies/radars.

At least post sunset storms will be far easier to spot - the humid haze makes it quite challenging at the mo.

12z WRF-NMM shows an organised cluster of storms heading into SE England and East Anglia tomorrow morning with something weaker/smaller over the West Country and into the West Midlands/Welsh Marches;

I mean we've got clouds that say "could get a bit stormy later" but nothing that's "impending wrath of Zeus" over Verwood. Just wondered how different it is those 10 miles south.

Really robust looking towers out to the distant east, and an ever increasing smell of... poo... in the air. Ooh I love living in the countryside!

Sferic in Salisbury. Tomasz now the duty forecaster on BBC N24, I couldn't think of anyone better to guide us storm fans through this evening and tonight.

I am planning an all nighter, maybe even a chase should I need too.

Interestingly the winds have turned northerly within the band of showers from Poole to Swindon but are southerly elsewhere, what does that mean?
