Know we aren't down for any action today but there's a "feel" in the air. Still got good surface heating here.

Looked at sat 24 and im in a clear slot, bright hot sunshine, its 26c but directly to my north west/east is very dark cloud producing a few showers in that direction....

There's more cape and lower lifted index in that area that's why as it hits land it will probably weaken

Well that was ANOTHER let down. Why am I not surprised. All that nice convection has been replaced by the usual Cheshire murk....temperature has dropped but the humidity is still unbearable. nothing doing here I'm afraidPosted Image

Yep interestingly whatever's just off the radar coverage is producing a reasonable number of sefrics:

Take a look at the Sat24 images and you'll be able to see it quite clearly as it's very large.

The storm potential never gets close to the mainland though and stays in the Irish Sea.

Some nice convection going on here at the moment. Just had a heavy shower with a bit of small hail mixed in. More bubbling up out west too.

Thanks for that yes I often look there but hadn't thought of it this time

I too like a couple have mentioned think that it may weaken as it approaches land, though interestingly the Met Office forecast map shows some pretty heavy stuff in it still, so wouldn't be too surprised if something producing sefrics made it ashore somewhere.

Clouds also changing type now. Ordinary fair weather cumulus earlier have been replaced by a lot of altocumulus and virga. High of 27.0C here, now 25.4C.

Interesting area to the south west of Cornwall developing, I know the main area of low pressure is currently sitting of the west coast of Ireland, However is the area showing on satellite imagery that is producing a storm cluster front convergence or is there a new small low pressure developing that wasn't forecast?

Noticed this in the UKASF forecast for today...

... S WALES, SW ENGLAND ...Main period of interest will be from 18z onwards as a developing frontal system develops beneath a sharpening upper trough and an approaching/strengthening jet left exit. An area of showery rain with embedded elevated thunderstorms will gradually migrate northeastwards across these areas, although with a tendency to lose lightning activity as it moves further inland through the evening. Backed surface winds may allow an isolated funnel or weak tornado to form given rather low LCLs.

Aye and showers that develop will be slow moving and likely to deposit a fair amount of rain or small hail. Very humid and sultry evening to come, another 'sweatbed' for me again tonight.!!
