Hastings Pier back under local ownership and work to begin within weeks

IT is full steam ahead for the £14 million project to rebuild Hastings Pier following the news that the iconic structure has been returned to local ownership.

The official announcement, a major milestone in the project, was made yesterday (August 15) as Eric Pickles MP, secretary of state for communities and local government, visited the pier for the ceremonial cutting of the chain which has long held the gates closed.

Morning all,

Rain has finally arrived here and could linger on and off, for quite a while. Some heavier bursts likely, as waves develop along the front responsible, with Meto Fax showing any final clearance of rain from Kent, unlikely until later in the evening.

Tomorrow sees fronts pushing through the region, as an area of low pressure swings NE, to the NW of Scotland, with rain probably arriving early afternoon.

Some showers around the region for Sunday before the weather improves next week but although models at the moment show a small area of low pressure developing out in the Atlantic and running up close to N.Ireland, the only effect on our weather likely to be an increase in humidity, as warm TM air encroaches from our SW, around midweek.

As we head into the 2nd half of next week then increasingly warm and humid and we could develop a stiff breeze from the E or SE by the end of the week, to give us that hot hair-dryer effect, we felt a couple of Thursdays ago. Depending on exactly where any high pressure sets up could also see a thundery breakdown head our way, come next weekend but thats stretching model reliability, at the moment but possibly something for you storm fans to enthuse about and needs watching.

Regards,

Tom.

Very good summary TomasPosted Image  Interestingly a few showers are shown dotted about for Sunday. Not many, and not amounting to much probably, but it slightly goes against what I suggested yesterdayPosted Image

Edit: That is very welcome news about the pier in this town. Not before time tooPosted Image  To think the destruction was down to a couple of stupid teenage boys...the loss of identity to the town sea front and not least of all the businesses and livelihood of so many local people that were destroyedPosted Image

So pleased about this. Used to be in Hastings quite a lot (friends lived there from 2005 to 2011 - and, of course, went there loads as a kiddie), and it was heart-breaking to see one of the country's dwindling number of piers gutted by that fire. Great to see the work to rebuild it is imminent. Posted Image

Sun breaking through now. Let's get that convection going...

Quickly catching up with news and events as I wait for the rain to clear before I nip out to the shop.  More work done in the "studio" as it was dull and wet out, nice watching it all out of the window as I worked though, think I will enjoy it more in the cooler months.

West-to-East front seems to be fading fast after Brighton, leaving me with no weather at all. Boring.

I'm hanging around to see if the Red Arrows will turn up, with the cloud base being only 835 ft :(

Just heard something flying over low and heading West. Can't see a bleedin' thing though.

Afternoon all. Just finished work for 2 weeks 😊. Been a very overcast day here. Not too much in the way of rain, but very muggy. Clouds starting to break now, so hopefully will make for a nice evening. Anyway I'm off to a hopefully sunny and hot Portugal, so on that note I bid you all a fond fairwell, be lucky and I will catchup with you all in September.... 😊

Lovely long downpour here around 4:15 pm. Good for the fruit trees which were looking a bit wilted.

Also on the walk an hour or two before the rain, I noticed the very first few odd leaves falling from the trees... they were from different types of trees too. Can't wait for autumn.

You can get treatment for that.

Not sure why there is all this talk of autumn already, yes it was damp and quite wet this morning, but this afternoon has been rather hot and humid here and we are not the exact best place being in the centre of England for this normally.

Hello peeps,

It's Been a dull, drizzly sort of day until around 4.30pm. Sun has his hat on, although lots of broken low level cloud. Feeling very pleasant.

A good weekend to all Posted Image
