Morning all! Today is a kinda rinse and repeat of yesterday, gloom, gloom, gloomy, temp 3.9c, very calm. Boooooorrrrrriinnnggg! Looking forward to some clear frosty days, not too bothered about snow TBH, just to see some blue skies and sunshine would be most welcome.

Oh, oh, the sun is trying to break through the Permagloom, not sure if it'll make it though. Still -0.7C just up the road and significantly colder than that at some weather stations in the area.

TBH, this isnae a bad forecast for crimbo. Someone up in the hills will be getting a white christmas it seems. Knowing my luck, 5 mins up the road to the top of the hill they'll all be sledging and stuff, chucking snawbaws down at me and laughing!

Good news for skiing, omicron aside. 

With a pretty substantial greenie high developing to our north, there's lots of potential going forward.

A dry start with some early brightness, but cloud will soon thicken with rain and hill snow spreading north. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Rain and hill snow much of Thursday and Friday, perhaps early Saturday. Turning drier but colder from the north on Saturday. East or southeast winds, strengthening on Saturday.

This period remains somewhat uncertain in detail, but generally sees a split between colder air to the north and milder air to the south. Along the boundary, rain, with a risk of snow, predominantly across higher ground. To the south of this, mild, unsettled weather, with rain and occasional strong winds. To the north more settled conditions; brighter spells, with some wintry showers, mainly in the north and northeast, and feeling very cold in brisk northeasterly winds. Towards the end of the period potentially an interlude of more widely settled conditions, bringing colder, frosty weather. Maybe a risk of rain and snow with stronger winds arriving from the southwest later. Becoming colder than average heading into January with any unsettled, milder spells most likely for the west and south.

Sun has broken through here this morning allowing temperature to drop to 0c with a proper frost. Nice start to a winters day.

15 minutes West from the house and its completely different. On the way to Huntly to get my booster shot.

Dull, cold and grey. Looking forward to seeing the sun again, I must admit.

Plenty of interest going into the Christmas weekend. Expect a fair bit of wet baw chat coming up.

With a brisk onshore easterly and plenty of low level mixing and 850s of -8 or -9 I wouldn't expect it to be cold enough for accumulating snow along the immediate east coast. Needed -11/12c as we had back in February to see snow lying here in Pittenweem, but I hope to be wrong!

A curious day of weather.

Permagloom to start with, temperatures hovering just above freezing.

Then around 10:30 skies clearing from the NW to leave a lovely sunny day - and temperatures responding by dipping well below zero at -2c!

Light winds and dry.

Low cloud to the east seems to be advancing back in this direction so will be curious to see if the temperatures rise again.

Thank goodness that's the winter solstice over with, roll on more daylight!

Cold, dull, driech and damp again. Currently 2.2C.

A cold winter's day. Although no overnight air frost last night, it did get down to 0.1C, rose to 1.0C and now in the gloomy fog it's already -0.1C this evening. Bitter. Heating on all day.

Popped over to Aboyne this morning to check out the newest family member see below.. the difference in temperature and weather was amazing.. as we came into Torphins the wife said "wow this place is beautiful, i could live here" .. then again as we entered Aboyne.. "oh this is stunning very nice" 

The mood over in the mad house is up and down more often than a tarts knickers...

Oh yes picture of new family member to come home toward end of January

Last winter I drove through Torphins daily on my way to work in Banchory. The commute was zero hassle until the snow started. Driving over the Learney was not for the faint of heart.

The sunshine stayed tantalisingly close all day over to the South West - took a quick photo from the pickup when I drove round the hill to collect my bike from Monymusk. 

Again the photo doesn't begin to do the view justice!

Turned into a fine midwinter day with sun,blue skies  and frost lying in shade all day with temperature falling below freezing by 3.00pm. Currently -2c and -5c inland at Glenferness where we were delivering hay an hour ago. Its surreal to watch the ground and puddles freeze over as you pass by in daylight

Well I've given up with the mad house... its turned into the school playground again.. same every year.. 

And if its not going to snaw on xmas day im just gonna drink until it snaws...

ECM turning the screw .. not looking very festive south of the border. We at least be cold n frosty with odd flurry.

? It’s been solid here over the last few days with four foggy ice days on the trot. Coldest day today with a start of -8.5c and a -4c max for the shortest day. Sustained inversion conditions bringing a festival of fog. Snow may be absent but it’s felt like winter proper with an icy coat on everything and rivers beginning to freeze over. Currently-8.4c ?

cracking pup @Mair Snaw could be some chilly nights standing in the garden in yer baffies waiting for it to go pee pee. @Scepticalsome trolling u have been doing in the MT.... very stealthy

good summary from @Scottish-Irish SkierI am given up trying to see what it's going to do.... im now thinking freezing crisp and clear and that will do just fine.

 

I've had reports of small flurries up in Aberfeldy earlier on with a dusting. 

The pub run has been a sobering one tonight and it appears a full wake is currently taking place.

He is an absolute beauty.. we pick him up on the 18th of jan...might see if i can squeeze in a house viewing or two at the same time.. the wife keeps going on about how she loved Torphins today and when i showed her @Sceptical picture she said omg its like Canada can we move there...i wonder what i might be doing next year??

Oh and dont go into the mad house... its all doom and gloom and the party is over as the cheese wedge has let us down and the red wine has run out..
