Might be calm in many places but it's really, really windy here already - windiest I've seen in many a moon so given that this is nowhere near peak then I'd say I'm worried.  My instincts aren't good on this but I hope to have egg on my face in front of friends family and work colleagues later...

I'm in the red area and 90 mins in we have a moderate breeze so far.

I’m in Edinburgh for the weekend, woke up at 6am hoping to see a blizzard but just slushy mess and it’s now raining. Snow further north. Trying to convince the wife Perth is lovely for a day out.

Bit blowy and wet here just outside Basingstoke but not expecting the strong winds until late morning/midday ish.

I was in Edinburgh a couple of months ago and took a quick day trip up to Glenshee- only a couple of hours and very scenic.

Plenty of snow up there!

AROME 03Z still going with some sort of sting jet for a small area of E Midlands / E Anglia, possibly getting up to 90mph.

Feels a bit stormy here already yet local readings not even up to 50mph yet.

Isle of Portland readings might be one to watch between 9am and 11am. If we're getting readings of 107mph south of Ireland, there's a small chance an exposed place in the SW or S Wales might clock a 100mph at some point in the morning.

Good morning.

A beautiful morning here - for now. Already getting breezy.

The ex wife has just got back from Skegness Butlins with the kids so she did finally heed my advice to leave early to avoid the worst.

Stay safe if you have to go out there everyone.

Bit bizarre, then again it's lashing here now so perhaps it's a ramp up due to a line of showers passing through.

Let us know how it’s going as soon as you get power back.  Good luck!

Remember the red warning is not for 5 hours of severe weather for the SW, but that severe weather could happen within those 5hrs. Peak severe winds will be about 1-2hrs for most.

The warnings should emphasise this - people in the eastern half of the warning area will look outside at 10:30 and see that it’s not too bad and then go out.   the sting jet risk (which I assume is the main reason for the red warning) transfers west to east during that five hours ….

Updates have been superb - but most important is you keep safe.

Very calm here until ten minutes ago. Looking at social media people are ignoring the warnings and heading off to work as 'oh the met office have got it wrong'. Argh.

It is still very calm here (winds only gusting to about 30mph).
