Absolute stunner here today - blue skies and 16.5c. Quite breezy but definitely feels like spring. Feels great to be out of the winter months

Yes a lovely Spring day here to and plenty of warmth out in the sun. Won't be long untill I cut the lawn for the first time this year!

Check the size of the HIGH over Europe from above

Much of Europe loving the situation, I bet, apart from the string of cloud right above my abode!

12c and sunny here, although the sky is turning increasingly milky. Still a lovely pleasant enough spring day as winds are fairly light.

What an awful winter it has been. The last snowfall we had was in late November. Some frosts in January but that was it. If the late November snowfall didn't happen I'd have to place Winter 2021/22 with 2013/14 and 2019/20, both being the most mundane, nondescript winters I've experienced.  February 2022 was the mildest for 20 years, terrible winter month.

Hopefully Spring 2022 will have more seasonal weather, whether it be snow or sun I wont mind.

A good winter for those struggling with soaring energy prices.

The South East seems to have reverted to the anti-weekday job weather regime. Apart from one spectacular sunny weekend at the end of February, it seems to be the weekdays are largly dry and pleasant, then the Atlantic weather systems come raging in as soon as Friday arrives. Today in Horsham, a beautiful sunny mild Spring day. Tomorrow, rain all day :-(.

Teleconnective roundup as we head into Spring proper.

1) ONI for Feb came in around -0.7.

2) AO for Feb came in at +1.5

3) QBO for Feb came in at -1.97 (most negative Feb since 2015 and makes this -QBO event stronger than the 2018 one).

4) PDO for Feb came in at -1.63 (most negative Feb since 1956)

Negative QBO cancelled out by other factors this winter for cold at least..

Back to the here and now..

UK caught between the still very strong PV to the NW and a strong high pressure system to its east. End result mostly mild southerly sources airflow. Rain for western parts less so further east. Sign the azores high will ridge NE through UK during next week and we may exchange milder Atlantic air for mild continental air away from far NW. No sign of anything cold for the time of year on the horizon. Not a very interesting outlook from my perspective.

I blame the strength of the Nina combined with the -PDO and second year status.

While -1.0 is normally a decent strength, the fact that it was second year and combined with a very negative PDO potentially may have amplified certain atmospheric feedbacks (and negated heat transfer to the stratosphere) more than a normal event of this strength.

Not looking good for me according to the model thread. I have my first few days off in the year from 25th to 28th March and it seems the general consensus is that we're more likely going to have a "beast from the east" rather than any warm sunny days during that period. Absolutely terrible luck for me if that happens!

What a gorgeous day yesterday was. A lovely couple of hours on the allotment in a t-shirt during the afternoon.

Not feeling very spring like today here. Dull and wet and quite chilly. March has a much more wintry edge to it than Spring at least here.

Well looking at this mornings charts, looks like winter is coming. And with a SSW looking likely to occur, these type of charts have more chance of happening now than we've seen all winter.

It has been windy here all week on and off, and a biting cold wind at that!  Add to that the downpours we have had, and the hailstones just now, it is definitely not very spring-like!  At least the the mornings and evenings are getting ever lighter - I love that!

Thankfully at the bottom of the gfs pile. Although not a complete outlier. Don’t need cold weather now, complete waste time of time.

It looks like goodbye winter with the models dropping the prospect of a cold easterly- and very much good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

This has been a very decent March here so far with plenty of sunshine and not much rain- long may it continue.
