The UK weather now is awful, growing up in the 70’s we had a run of mild winters but they were always compensated for by some cold, snowy weather in spring.

1973 brought a sunny mild March but April brought a very cold northerly spell with widespread snow. 7cms lay at Birmingham Airport on the morning of the 12th.

1974 spring produced several easterly spells with some snowfall in March. Election Day on 1st March brought widespread snow to the Midlands

1975 brought a very wintry March and April with widespread snowfalls from the second week in March till mid April. Birmingham was brought to a standstill by 18cms of snow falling on 27th March. Then of course was the bonus snowfall on 2nd June!

1976 again gave us a cold March with easterly winds and some snow.

All these winters were mild but nature compensated in Spring. No such luck in 2022 with another mild, boring March

Weather ain't too bad down south. But as is the normal here for the past year. Too much cloud! That needs to sod off to allow some warmth to come through.

Been an enjoyable spring so far, and enjoying the lack of any annoying cold spells being shown in the models.

Netherlands High until October please. Snow had its chance, instead places like North Africa and the Greek islands got much more snow than the UK, getting fed up of our winters tbh.

A good winter for those struggling with soaring energy prices.

How about a nuclear missile.

if we get  a nuclear winter, we'd still be the only country on earth where is didn't snow

It has been a fairly standard start to spring over here and nothing out of the ordinary for March.

I think people tend to have their expectations a little too high, as their perceptions of standard March weather has changed thanks to all the warmer than average Marches we have had.

Whilst cold wintry spells do indeed start to become fewer and farther between, experiencing them up until late April is certainly not unusual. Spring is quite often an erratic season.

Nothing standard about this March in the Manchester area so far- average maximum of 11C and 59 hours of sunshine up to this point.  A few cold nights have brought the overall average down but it's been consistently mild by day. & consecutive days now over 12C. Overall average of 7.1C at the moment, so pretty much reflecting the CET.

You could likewise argue that people's perception of Spring has been skewed IE two Marches in the last ten years have been the coldest on record 2013 and 2018

March 2018 was nowhere near the coldest on record, despite the exceptionally cold start.

Though it did contain the coldest spring day on record, perhaps what we was referring too. Though that alone would be a misnomer to the entire month being record cold. Certainly felt cold enough with the two easterlies and the cold, dull end.

Says a lot about the climate of southern England when you get more sand from the Sahara desert falling from the sky than either sleet or snow.

It looks like goodbye winter with the models dropping the prospect of a cold easterly- and very much good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

This has been a very decent March here so far with plenty of sunshine and not much rain- long may it continue.

Mmm think a potent northerly will arrive some point next 3 weeks..

All guesswork I'm afraid! As northerlies are fairly common in spring, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary- but hopefully brief. Certainly nothing cool coming next week- heading for yet another mild month.

Met Office forecast has changed from sunny to lots of cloud around this afternoon and mostly cloudy tomorrow up until 2pm when it said full sun. Then lots of cloud on Sunday and mostly cloudy on Monday. They got the rain wrong yesterday for many places too. I hope this nice weather isn't going downhill.

The warmth seems to have downgraded somewhat but it’s still looking dry, sunny and milder than average apart from Sunday which looks chilly. I hope we don’t end up going cold again in April like last year.

Has it? Temps of 16-18c in places through next week is above average for late March.

A glorious day here too

I liken Spring to the build up of an event; Christmas, a party, perhaps a holiday or even just a weekend. I like the overall upward trend both in temperature and daylight with that 'summer's coming' feel.

Luckily for me I'm happy with anything above 20c so am satisfied most of the time in Summer. Yes, sometimes (like the examples above) the build up is better than the actual thing, but it's out of our control so one might as well enjoy it!

Unlike that drab early Autumn feeling where you sense the darkness coming, Spring gives that nice hopeful feeling that the best part of the year (IMO) is on it's way

Spring is probably the seasonal season for the UK (and NW Europe). Summer we do miss out on the best of heat and T-storms, Autumn we miss out on the vivid colours seen in America & Eurasia and winter, well, I don't need to tell you!
