It was only 23 degrees here, slightly above average so I had a good run earlier, and didn't even sweat. I love being very fit and athletic.

Some outlandish reactions as usual. 30c is ok by me and i think if there is anything in the peripherhal 25c to 38c I will accept it. The level of heat barely continues in uk. Sooner or later it will be 19c (usually a Saturday) and blustery NW winds.

I hope we perhaps get a middle ground of a couple of days in the mid thirties next weekend instead of some of the madness on offer.
This is like only asking for a foot of snow instead of 10 feet.

I feel for those in the Scottish Islands, whilst they are predicting 43 deg in London they have the Scots on 13 deg!

I know, buts its the initial outlay, live on my own on min wage. No grants available as i work and own my house. If i livid on benefits and a council owned property different story.

Ah. ok. Might be worth doing though as energy prices are only going to go up, do they do loans for this kind of thing? Better to take a loan out to pay for solar panels than an electricity bill

I mean I love the heat by and large but some of the charts for next weekend are a bit concerning I have to say.

The loans and grants have all been pulled. To be honest solar panels strong enough to run ac would be hugely  expensive and useless at night when you really need it. You can't store the power remember.

Not looking forward to my winter bills. We’ve flicked over to our new tariff now, had a look at our smart meter yesterday evening and it was on £3.50 for the day when everyone was out all day! We only did one load of washing and 3 showers. I can see In winter that it’ll go to nearly £10 a day some days…..and that’s without the next lot of increases!

You have my total sympathies. I only have to look after myself so i can imagine how tough things are and will be in the in the up coming Winter. I feel very very fortunate that i very very rarely need any heat on at home so my expensive spell is now, a significantly shorter spell of expense than a whole Winter, not sure how many are going to get through it to be honest. So i feel a right nob moaning about a few weeks of ac use to be honest, its nothing compared to "normal" folks bills this Winter.

Sweety - Do you have air conditioning in your house?

I have a portable a/c in my bedroom and 2KW solar on the roof. In this weather I can generate enough solar to run the a/c and a few other stuff for free.

We were actually talking about getting air con last night. But honestly no idea how to go about it! Is it portable or built in like heating? I know nothing!

Portables are the more common units as the purchase price is cheaper. You need to put them below a window and poke a hose out of it though, that makes them draw air out of the house and it's replaced from elsewhere. I prefer to not seal the window up but I shut the door so i'm not drawing hot air in from the house, making the unit not worth the electric it consumes. They are loud too.
Mini split systems are possible but they have an outside unit with connections to power and the inside unit. Those require specialist fitting. You can have multiple indoor units one one outdoor unit. They will make sense if one still WFH and has an office, for example.

Ducted systems have an outdoor unit, an indoor unit somewhere like cellar or attic or both, with ducting of the chilled (or heated) air along with a filtered return for the air to be recirculated. I want to replace my gas boiler with such a system but that is very very pricey.

Very nice day today so far, plenty of sunshine. Strange how met office and BBC both have completely contrasting forecasts for next week in my area. BBC is going for a mostly sunny week while on the other hand, met office is going for an absolute cloudfest with hardly any sun other than on Friday. How can they be so different! Hopefully BBC is more correct lol.

The absence of empathy continues on here I see. I do not like this heat because yesterday, I suddenly became overwhelmed with extreme fatigue and spent most of the day in bed (picked up a bug? Not COVID). The tactic of opening windows on both sides of the house didn't work well because there wasn't a breath of wind outside. If I have the windows open, I am kept awake by thoughtless idiots on motorbikes roaring along the nearby bypass and barking dogs. If I have the windows closed, I have to try and sleep in 25+C which I can't do. The lack of sleep last night has made me feel just as bad today if not worse, and I have to force myself out to get food, and water crops on my allotment, which will not survive the next week if I don't water them. If the forecasts come off the next week is going to be awful for me.

An unremarkable summers day here, lots of sun yes but a sea breeze has stopped temps getting above 24C so nice but nothing else.

We overshot the forecast in Sheffield, with Weston Park weather station giving an hourly reading of 28.3°C, though I won't find the actual max til tomorrow. However, Tuesday-Friday now look quite cooler than initially shown, perhaps this is due to cloud, but never mind!

28c max here today, nice breeze with it, so not much humidity so was comfortable..So the talk about 40c has shifted from Friday a few days ago to now next Monday…always that 7-10 days away, Until I see charts that show 40c+ in a 3 day reliable time frame I will shut up ….

I’m enjoying this current plus 25c spell,  but the only downside can the be the sound of loud mopeds or show-offs revving their engines.(why do they do it, because it’s so annoying and pathetic).

Our road is fairly quiet, but it’s those little subtle things they become more noticeable when the evenings are warmer. Since restrictions were lifted last year, people talking loudly coming back after the pub, can be really annoying sometimes. Especially if it’s near midnight and you’re trying to get to sleep.

Anyway, to the person who’s finding it hard to sleep in these conditions, may I suggest something.

Why not place your feet into a bowl of cold water with some ice cubes, for about 10-15 minutes, and place a damp cold kitchen towel over your head in the evening before you go to bed.

These will help to cool the body down, even in a very hot environment. I’ve tried this method, and I live in west London, with no outdoor space.

Yes, there are other differences as well. The temperatures that people get excited about in winter are forecasts in the minus single digits as minima, and in reality we can barely scrape an ice day in the southern half of Britain. What would be exciting for snow rampers would not be life threatening, as has been pointed out everyone has heating. I have been in Russia and Canada in genuinely cold temperatures that would be dangerous here, but we we do not even get close.

The 40C temperature that some are ramping irresponsibly on here will cause problems and death; interestingly for the same group of people that Covid was a threat for - the elderly, the obese and those with an underlying health condition. Is that a price worth paying to see a round number hit and get mathematical satisfaction?

It's a weather forum, people like extremes.. I don't know how many times people need to be reminded of this?! No amount of ramping or telling people they're irresponsible is going to change the weather.
