Yeah still probably got an hour of warming from this point.

I suspect though we may end just missing out, but looking like we should get to 100f regardless and into the 38s.

Going to be close. If today is close, I feel tomorrow really won't be..

37.5C Kew Gardens.  I reckon we can manage another 1.2C with at least 1.5 hours of heating left.

Dissapointing here, got some high cloud which has seen temps fall a couple of degrees from a high of 34c.

The heat is very dry, after having gone for a walk, I have felt far more uncomfortable at a humid 28c than what we currently have.

Knowing we're exactly "on record pace" in terms of the 3pm number was really interesting.

And if there's a 37.5 out there we're apparently ahead of record pace if Cambridge was on 37.2 at the same point? This is certainly going to be close at any rate. And it's not even meant to be the peak. Staggering.

Biggest lump of cloud may avoid London, especially more northern parts so still all to play for.

That's the London record broken by a fair bit. Heathrow with the record if you consider it London. (31 July 2020). 36.4 °C the Kew Gardens Record

Just poped home quickly while out and about in work to put some ice in the cats bowls - was 31C in the garden. However a lot of high cloud about now and some thicker, darker mid level cloud which does keep blocking out the sun every so often so I don't think I will see any more of a rise in temperature

And, come tomorrow, 100F will be knocked into a cocked hat (whatever the flock that's supposed to mean!)? It's the sheer scale of these temperatures that amazes me: Yes, in 1976, it was hot -- but nowhere near this hot as today & tomorrow will be. 1976's heat was also far more restricted in its extent!?🤔

And, aye, I lived through it too!👍

Heathrow's record is 37.9c. Kew has the London record with 38.1c, so still a while to go.

I think the ludicrous minima tonight will see us over the 40C line. Most places will be starting off 20C+, some places 25C.

Is the starting temperature all that important thou? We saw many places shoot up 15 decreases in 3 hours this morning then the rate of increase exponentially slowed. Tomorrow we start 10 degrees warmer won't the rate of increase start at a lower rate?

Tomorrow the air a little above the surface will be considerably hotter - indeed record hot widely - prior to vertical mixing bringing it down.

Sitting here in 37*C heat, I’m struggling to comprehend it being 1-3*C hotter tomorrow.

Why Shoreham airport cooler than rest of surrounding areas it’s only 26 Celsius was forecast 31 and the sun has come back out 🤔 Disappointing

Sea breeze? SW wind at 6 knots over a huge amount of sea.  Dew point is also 14*C so humidity is currently 48%

Yes, both records were set on 10 August 2003 (but won't be shown because Faversham beat both with 38.5c).

I stand corrected.  They've done away with Faversham now haven't they? I did hear that a lot of people say Kew should have got the record.
