Just back from a decent walk around the headwaters of the Irwell in conditions that although a bit damp under foot at times, felt more like mid March than early February.

Well that wall to wall sun forecast by the BBC didn't materialise. Half the country is under cloud.

Aye a decent enough start up here and we even thought about having a drive to St Annes this morning but it turned a lot cloudier as the afternoon went on.

Been lovely today, topped by a stunning sunset at the moment.

Yes, a stunning red sunset here too, reflected in the clouds. It's been a decent day here, bright rather than sunny with increasing cloud cover as the day progressed, but a nice chill in the air.

Temps dropping quickly now, almost made double digits at 3pm.  Currently 4°C and looks like a frosty night ahead.  Off to check on mum in bit, no doubt gritters will be about.  Might pick up some salt and pepper ribs on the way home, perfect end to a lovely day.

I saw 6 gritters between Stoke and Northamptonshire, gritting heavy load on the M1

A fine winter's day. After a week of incessant cloud, drizzle and general gloom, it was just the tonic. An early frost that took quite some time to clear. I was out on the fells Helvellyn, hard ground from valley to summit, severe wind chill, skittering of snow on very highest part, otherwise no snow, except patches. It doesn't look like mid winter on the fells, alas we've become used to this over recent years, many weeks go by when they are largely snow free - still a lot of winter left on the fells at least, snow in May quite common.

Skies were quite hazy, not the blue sky sunshine look may expect under a 1045 mb high.

A cold night in store, temps are dropping markedly, a widespread air frost on the cards.

A nice red sunset this evening which seemed to linger in the West for a good hour afterwards followed by the rising 'Snow Moon' to the East, unfortunately tonight's full-Moon means seeing Comet C/2022 e3 is going to be challenging even in the dark-skies of the Peak District. At least the next few days offer a bit more brightness compared to the week just gone although i'm now getting in-to 'Spring Mode' with the evening hours getting longer and the lack of any substantial snowfall in the forecast other than it just being the typical *rinse & repeat* cold & cloudy.

Ooh I like the sound of the snow moon! Pity it isn't heralding snow. My switch to spring mode normally arrives last week of Feb, what's the betting that's when our wintriest weather of the season looms on the horizon.. happened many a time 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2013, 2018 recent examples. I don't settle fully into spring feeling until the Spring equinox, another 6 weeks away.

Not as chilly this morning, currently 0°C, there's a slight frost on the bird table.  Cloudy later but staying dry, a calm outlook for the foreseeable, unlike last February's 3 storms in quick succession caused mayhem uk wide, Dudley, Eunice and Franklin, occurring mid month.  May have freezing fog tomorrow.

-2.1C. It's really noticeable how the season is moving on now, already starting to get light.
