A so-so day here, mostly cloudy, dry and certainly a mild feel out. Easily into double figures, a high of 12C.

More of the same tomorrow it seems, but then a marked change to sunny but colder weather from Sunday, with overnight frosts to accompany it.

Looking forward to the change as this week has been mild but drab - nights will be cold but days should still feel pleasant in any prolonged sunshine with the slightly stronger February sun.

Whilst the sun is gaining a bit of strength, it isn't until the last week of February I tend to notice its warmth, and this increases markedly through March.

It will be good to see the sun after a sunless week.

Yeah late Feb & definitely by mid March is when it becomes more noticeable - it even took the edge off 2018’s BFTE compared to the level of bitter cold we could have seen. If the beast had hit during mid January it would have been excruciatingly cold.

7.3C in the dull and gently breezy marginals. Decent day for outside jobs. Still got plenty to do before spring (Hedges done, but trees to plant, firewood to cut, veg patch to dig etc etc) kind of hoping some anticyclonic cool/cold materialises just to hold thinks back a little-the onset of spring caught me out a bit last year!

An overcast start again here, but looking like being another dry day during daylight hours at least so fine for getting out and about. I'm looking forward to the return of the frosty nights/mornings and maybe some brighter days.

It probably did have a slight effect but not by a lot. The days are lengthening but the sun still isn't strong. I don't think the UV index moves into 2 strength until March and then 3 late March/early April, which it then becomes classed as "moderate" strength by the Met office. And then when you consider places like New York City which is as far south as Naples in Italy can get decent snow and cold into late March yet their sun by then is as strong as ours in late April and early May. So we just need a deep cold source which is often hard to come by for these shores for snow to stick around. As long as it's sub zero all day, then snow and ice won't melt a great deal even well into March. Also to factor in is the UV actually gets stronger at height which surprises people. For every 1000m increase in altitude, the UV radiation level will increase about 12%. So it's not unheard of for people skiing on the higher level slopes to get burnt. Despite a stronger sun the snow doesn't melt due to the temperature being sub zero. We just need deep cold, the UV is a lesser issue until we are a long way into Spring.

I came across these new signs while wandering through the local wind farm earlier today.

They’re probably a necessary bit of H&S information to cover lumps of ice falling from the blades but somehow I don’t think that they’ll have turned blue much so far this winter.

Dull overcast day yet again, had 6 in a row now, moderate rain late afternoong, a starry night, temps dropping markedly. A frost come dawn and a far better day ahead with plenty of sunshine.

Brilliant blue sky and sunshine, what a lovely morning.  Temps falling low enough from 3.30am to form a lovely coating of frost.  The birds water frozen over too.  -1 currently, what a great day for a walk, cycle or a tidy up outside.  Enjoy.

A sunny start for a change here this morning and colder than of late with a welcome return of a frosty start. Just about scraped an air frost, an overnight low of -0.1C. A perfect day for getting out and about.

Out all day yesterday in the gloom and pleasantly surprised to wake up this morning to a cold crisp morning. Car had to be de-iced before going out but I don't mind that if the day is nice. The barometer is as high as I've seen it for a while and indications are that the week ahead will be dry if not wall-to-wall sunshine.

-1.2 in the marginals at dawn this morning. Now bright and clear but with a thin veil of high cloud. Hoping this upcoming high is clear. Find cloudy highs grim.

Afternoon all. The February sunshine certainly is starting to feel like it’s got a slight bit of warmth behind it. It’s oh so uplifting, refreshing and welcome. Spring truly is around the corner now, just 3 weeks of yet another poor winter left.

3 weeks to think about what plants I’m gonna be growing this year and what needs doing to the garden.

Really hoping that this ‘winter’ doesn’t have a sting in its tail, and it can loosen its dross grip without a fight. Time will tell. For now, some blue skies and frosts to look forward to.
