Gfs 18z looking slightly flatter. Not much in it though.

Very slightly but more importantly it’s nothing like the UKMO

Looks on par with the gem, so probably a more realistic evolution than the 12z, plenty of time for adjustment however.

Fine margins as always

There was no way the pub run was going to backtrack to the ukmo extent. Tomorrow's runs will be critical.

A shift in the wrong direction if it's a bitter easterly that you are after.  18z GFS 156 hrs:

I think deep down we all know what the morning will bring...

There seems to be enough heights being pushed NE from the Atlantic to keep the trough away, therefore allowing WAA to re-enforce the Scandy high

Which means, the cold will reach the U.K. we need upgrades now though

The 12z gfs was only barely getting far enough North with its Scandi ridge. The 18z is a move in the wrong direction with too much energy going over the top. I don't like the look of it, I personally think it's going to be a bust on its first attempt!!

The form horse would certainly say that. At least it can't be dragged out much further than tomorrow. The critical juncture is relatively short term.

I very much agree. I think this episode has already been decided with too much energy over the top. The gfs, best of the bunch, has already started its backtrack

Regardless of the initial push of heights and subsequent scandi high orientation, the teleconnections and atmosphere seem primed for blocking to the north and north east.

Remember those Mjo composites are based on the entire month anomaly not just a short week snap. So there could be reloading of the pattern as we move through Feb
