What a stunning morning: +8c at 6am, a heavy dew and a beautiful autumnal mist rising off the Stour valley to the east and the Meon valley to my south. I've been in the States for the last 11/12 days (work trip) so I've missed most of the harvest, though I see a few wheat fields are still up. Early morning tractors are out and turning over the OSR fields, mucking and prepping them for drilling next year's wheat/barley.

Just ate my first blackberry of the season - delicious. Hawberries are turning from pink to red, early sloes are out and elderberries are filling the hedgerows. Hazelnuts and conkers - swelling nicely.

Three weeks until September.....

Since Saturday I've noticed a distinct change... There has been an autumnal feel to the days in this neck of the woods, and I'm certainly not complaining about it. 😁 🍃🍁🍂🍄

I've still yet to witness my first gentle autumn mist of the season, but hey, it is still early(ish) August, plus I'm back on earlies again next week, so fingers crosssed. 😁

Plus I'm now once more in the world of the pre 21:00 sunsets and post 05:40 sun rises! The vice is well and truly slackening off now. 😅

... Just over six weeks now till the autumn equinox! 🙂👍

Noticed quite a lot of blackberries out, seem early this year. I wonder if the early warmth this summer has brought on early ripening...

I said the other day it won’t be long before the house spiders arrive.  Well, what do we have here?!

What I will say about this upcoming warm/hot spell is I hope it's not setting the scene for a very warm September.....

Hopefully the warmest September on record and 1st half of October, then 2nd half of October stormy, then November 2010 on steroids 😉

With a warmest September on record, which would have to be 17C after 2006's 16.9C, you are unlikely to get a cold winter!!

Autumn is still a long way off as far as I’m concerned.

Still in full summer mode until late August at the very least.

Oh if only we knew what the rest of summer actually held ...

Morning everyone. 😊

This morning whilst driving to work, I spotted my first gentle autumnal mist just hanging over one of the fields. 🌫️🌾🌫️😁

Needless to say, this has cheered my cold, dark, miserable heart up no end! 🥳👍🏻

The changing of the seasons is now well underway! … Hello Autumn! 🌫️🌾🍃🍂🍁🍄🎃👍🏻

Yes, it does have a slightly autumnal feel in the air, light etc. Hard to define precisely why, but it just feels a bit different, if that makes any sense?! Just as can happen in May, when one gets that first blast of the summer (usually) to come...

'Gentle' is a word that I like to associate with autumn weather, neither the severity of summer heat nor the bonechill (all too rarely these days) of a proper winter's day. Autumn can be beautiful.

Alternatively, it can just be a succession of wind and lashing rain from the Atlantic - !

Noticed the leaves are just starting to turn on one or two trees. Last time I remember it being this early was in 2017 when I lived in Brum.

That'll be heat stress not autumnal decay. Too early yet

Slight problem… no heat.

2017 was also an autumnal summer so that’ll more likely be why.

Shallow mist and thick dew on all the fields around here on my early morning walk today.  Was very nice, with a noticable increasing cool feel in every little dip.  I'm not a fan of the descent into autumn (as I have SAD), but misty mornings are lovely!!

round here (Telford) the blackberries start being ripe enough to pick in the last few days of July most years. I usually try to get most of my picking done in the middle two weeks of August so I can have the blackberry jam/jelly done and out of the way before the rest of the foraging and preserving…

I saw another one Saturday night lurking in the living room.  It wasn't the same one as it was slightly smaller!
