Well, apart from an hour or so's moderate rain, Storm Antoni has, so far, delivered precisely NOTHING! 😁

PS: Other than a day of utter grot!

Convective Outlook ⚡

Heavy showers will develop across England, Ireland & Scotland.

Lightning will be limited however the odd/couple of strikes can't be ruled out.

Some distant convection looking towards a mostly southerly direction earlier this evening.

Taken at 19:30 and 20:15 respectively.

Convective Outlook ⚡

An occluded front will run through Scotland allowing showers to develop around it throughout Monday.

Showers may become intense/potent at times which. is where we could see the odd lightning strike or couple.

Mention was made a few days ago of the Fastnet race tragedy of August 1979 when 21 sailors lost their lives in an August storm. Well, on Wednesday at 9pm, Ch 5 have another of their interesting weather programmes, this one entitled 'Killer Storm - The Fastnet Disaster'. During the programme, meteorologist Clare Nasir will explain why 1970s forecasts were 'rubbish'. Should be worth a watch.

While it's relatively quiet, I just wanted to drop a link to my Arizona Monsoon blog, that I am planning to update daily while here chasing with Paul. There'll also be pics on my FB page.

It's been an eventful start. My connecting flight at NYC was held for over two hours last night by...wait for it... severe thunderstorms. Now that's ironic! And just an hour ago, I was already treated to my first monsoon storm, spitting out bright pink CGs!

I've had about two hours' sleep...

Not sure what the 18z GFS run last night was smoking but I like it 😂

Haven't seen EHI at those values for the UK in a long time.

Pretty much perfect ingredients for UK supercells, 2000+ sbcape, widely 40+ kts of Bulk shear and some steep lapse rates. 850mb winds may also be marginally supportive of tornadoes given a veering wind profile. Think everyone here would be very pleased if this came off.

Perhaps a sign of an explosive end to August? I mean its way out at the end of the runs and the 0z/06z runs have the cape stay down in France but runs like this one have popped up over the last few days.  Defo one to watch IMO.

Thank you 🙂 Appreciate that!

Heading up to the Grand Canyon today it would seem! Models break storms out in that area!
