Yes, I remember this well. I was on duty at LGW and think 60F was reached down there with persistent cloud and drizzle. Think the cloud level almost hit the deck and some British Caledonian flights cancelled. If correct I think the rest of the winter became much colder , especially in Feb 79 ?

C

End of 1978, that winter really kicked off

Worth looking at the rain radar, you can clearly see the centre of low pressure in our region.

Yes -- was watching that last night as the rain lashed on the roof.  Seemed to me that we were the only place in Fergus's belly button.  Most of the UK was dry by then.

Was a dry walk to work first thing, lots of tree/branch debris across the road, from last night's gusts.  Brighter skies to the South but its remaining dark here and has been quite a showery morning.

Been in it earlier as we are at Manchester markets.

Looks like it may be coming back here later. Black clouds to my North

A bit like in north America it always impresses me how cold it can get in the far east and the wild temp swings. Shanghai is going to struggle to get above zero at the weekend. GFS going for -16 uppers there on the ensembles a bit further on. All of this bearing in mind how far south they are, as far south as Marrakech. Very impressive. Great city visited a few years ago Shanghai that is not Marrakech, never been to the latter.

Yes, it's been very wet.  Went to Wythenshawe yesterday via Styal, huge puddles the width of the road in many places and surrounding fields were under water.  Heavy showers with the risk of thunder and lightning forecast for today.  Dry and calm, 8.3°C (7am) .

6100 'Royal Scot' will be passing southbound along the Manchester-Sheffield line later this morning and i'm hoping there's a decent break between the heavy showers to see it, it's not too often we get the Steam excursions locally and especially not during the late Autumn/Winter months.

Blackpool 8-15 am - 8C heavy showers.

Went out early this morning 7-30 wearing my new winter waterproofs.

Good job i did as the heavens opened shortly afterwards with rain of biblical, no monsoon proportions.

Bad enough Saturday evening in the winds when driving along in a Northerly direction i was approached by a rubbish bin  travelling in an Easterly direction at an approx speed of 30 mph. Due to an unusual ninja-like reaction by the bin a collision was avoided.

I seem to be watching clouds lately so arriving home this morning i took a couple of pictures of these clouds shortly after the shower passed.

Have a nice day as they say, be careful out there.

Over and out till the next time.

So much for just a cloudy day here. Turned miserable, woken by more heavy rain in the early hours. Looks like we're about to get hit with more of it in the next couple of hours. I think the settled weather was a myth, it now looks to rain every day now moving forward. Apart from a few days at the start of the month it's been a properly crap start to winter.

Yup, showers already breaking out and likely to be the story of the day here. I'm not sure whether this is the Cheshire Gap at work or whether the showers are more widespread, but it certainly seems that our region is the place for them today. Hopefully, these will be replaced with more settled weather before and over the weekend as a high pressure system moves in.

Soggy as it gets here today; a constant drizzle and 7ºC

Supposed to clear up tomorrow; back at it Thursday though 🤨

Annual total 1758.9 mm by this morning at 9GMT.   Beefy showers since then.

Grim gloomy conditions.  Can anyone remember blue skies and sun?

Just managed to put up outdoor decorations & lights before last downpour ☔☔☔️

Damp = word of the day

Fortunately got ours done last week whilst it was cold & dry outside

Our neighbour did theirs the other day and he got caught in a downpour just before he got them all sorted; he was sodden!
