Yep nice patch of cirrus forming this evening which gave a nice afterglow shortly after sunset. A lovely day overall 👌

It has been a very pleasant day, with a decent amount of sunshine (for once) and yet still enough of a nip in the air to remind us that it's still winter. I could get used to conditions like this! Not that I will, since it's back to murk and damp tomorrow, but at least there's been a bit of a respite and so the river is now on its way down.

A fairly pleasant day today and it's nice to have some sunshine as well as a little break from the rain. Looks like normal service will be resuming from tomorrow onwards though.

Normal service has indeed been resumed! The bright morning the MetO predicted has not happened, with the rain arriving several hours earlier than forecast. Once again, short-term rain forecasting is really quite noticeably poor even nine hours out. I'm aware it's a very hard thing to forecast, but improving this would be much more useful to many more people than having a six-day forecast be as good as a five-day one.

Indeed! I think forecasting as a whole as stepped back in the last few years as regards reliability in just a few days ahead and precipitation forecasts seem to be very inaccurate even in a small timeframe. Best thing to turn to and is reliable is the rainfall Radar at least you know what’s coming and going…😊

Poor forecasting of the rain this morning, as others have mentioned. Seems the warm front is already into the south west.

Still no dry weather on the mid range models, any sort of UK high is fading on model output.

Interesting post on Facebook by British Weather Services ( a site I've found to be really good over the years)

https://www.facebook.com/BritWeatherSvs

The UK will go into the fridge freezer from the 21st, snow for large parts of the north , bits & pieces further south. Sudden Stratospheric warming/Polar vortex dislocation being responsible.

One to watch. Model thread getting excited already

Turning out to be a very wet month indeed, already almost twice the February average rainfall has fallen here, and we're barely halfway through the month!

Today was a real let down after yesterday. It's only just stopped raining and it looks like there's more to come over the next couple of days ☹️

After being predominently wet over the last 12 months, something like this would be my ideal spring for this year:

March - A March version of April 2021. Though a March 2012 redux would also be nice.
April - A 2007 or 2011 redux.
May - A 2018 or 2020 redux.

Haven't seen such a concentrated rain warming for Midlands before, comes into force tomorrow afternoon.

Covers mainly the River Soar around Leicester and the River Avon / Leam, east and south of Coventry.

Metwatch its absolutely saturated, field runoff coming down the lanes, rivers at top of banks again after yesterday all day and night rain with top up heavy showers all day today. Nene is badly affected too.

Its certainly been a wet one so far this month, my readings so far for February are at 66.5mm, but I’m sure the EWP will be somewhat higher methinks.

The 24 hr min' of 9.5c was the second highest on record in February here ( since 1977 ) beaten only by 10.4c on the 4th in 2004. The overnight min' of 10.2c was also one of the highest on record.

Currently 15.1 °C, and with the sun out (for once!) and light winds it does actually feel quite springlike this morning.

The official Met Office station in the city had a minimum of 11.5C which is a new date record and 0.2C from the highest February min record set in early 2004. I didn't go down below 11.8C, so it's pretty much at the top of the range as to what's possible in February regarding night time temperatures.

15.5C and the sun has come out, close to the norm in early May!
