My phone just did one of those "remember this day" photo collage things, exactly this time in March, two years ago.

The warm spell in late March 2022. Yes...I remember it well. If only we had such a spell this year, I feel like we need it more than most years.

ANYWEATHER Yeah not unusual in terms of the conditions at all, just the longevity and unrelenting nature of it. We'll get a 24 hour period max of dry, sunny-ish weather then back to "BAU". The longest spell of anything different was the cold week in Jan lol. Before that, the Sept heatwave. Madness when you look at it from a broader view of the last 6-9 months.

Arch Stanton not being pedantic at all. Even when I look at the anomalies I don’t see the SE regularly having the worst of it.

Even within the 9-month wet period, I'd say Feb, March and now the first week of April have been or are likely to be particularly extreme.

Since the Jan cold spell ended conditions have been especially intolerable, more so than the autumn and early winter.

February was extremely dull and wet (as well as extremely mild). March looks likely to also be extremely dull and wet and the first week or so of April is also looking extremely dull and extremely wet.

So essentially we've had a 9 month prolonged dull, wet spell with a 2 month, and counting, extremely dull and wet spell superimposed on it. The prevailing synoptics of the past 9 months have become even more extreme of late - even more so when you consider that Feb and March "ought" to be drier and more anticyclonic than Oct to Jan.

danm I'd say it's the southwestern quarter of the country that gets a particularly hard time both recently and in the past 10 years in general. The persistent SW-lies and southerly tracking lows make the southwest (let's say from around Brighton westwards - meteorologically I consider coastal Sussex and Hampshire to belong in the southwest, not the southeast) especially and disproportionately wet and dull.

Summer8906 maybe. I’d need to look again.

From a sunshine perspective, there are only 2 years I can pick out  from the last 10 where the SE has had the worst of it from a sunshine totals vs average (anomaly) perspective. That’s 2021 and arguably 2013 (albeit 2013 was barely above average for sunshine anywhere).

A nice morning is now turning into another spell of depressing rain. Looks like it’s moving through quite quickly though so hopefully will brighten up again once it passes through in a couple of hours. A few heavy showers behind it though….

Well at least the rain moved through pretty sharpish today. Starting to brighten up.

Sun Chaserno snow..i witnessed a cold front at ground level literally roll up the cloud mist and fog into glorious sunshine..you could walk and follow the back of the cloud and mist on the ground up the hill (this was in Southway btw) as it was pushed away..i have never seen such a clear definition between a warm and cold sector right on the ground.

Snowing in SW Ireland today

We’ve had sleet/wet hill snow in SW England today.  Not warm here at all.  Much the same expected through the rest of the week too.  I think I’ve finally come to the conclusion that our seasons are messed up!  Not expecting anything, sustained, warm & sunny for the foreseeable future.

It's not much but at least we've had some sunny spells recently in the SE, and with the mild temperatures, it hasn't felt that bad (if you ignore the relentless rain).

It's shirt-sleeves weather over here, today, but I wouldn't call it 'hot'! 😁

Snowing here at the moment, it's wet though so only settling briefly/on the grass.

On another subject, there's also plenty more rain about, but signs of some improvement at least going into the Easter weekend. @Jo Farrow's video forecast has some more details 🙂

We've got the barest smidgen of sun here at the office in Sheffield, and the solar battery has charged up back in my Bassetlaw village. So not the worst day here in South Yorks/top of the East Mids..

It’s turned into a decent afternoon after an hour or so of rain. Lots of sunny spells now.
