markyo We did have a winter, January was even below average here (+2.4c, -0.1c, +3.2c).

I assume you would also agree that we didn't have a summer in 2011 (-1.0c, -2.0c, -0.9c)?

Been making the most of the spring sunshine this week by doing some work in the garden and going on country walks.

markyo No, but it still had summer temperatures.

A season with mild winter temperatures, dull winter sunshine and wet winter rainfall is still winter.

Azazel don’t look at the models this morning, the trough never ends and sticks around for ages. We’ve seen how this goes before so don’t be surprised if the next decent weather isn’t until after the next bank holiday..

Morning campers.

Awoke like a bolt this morning, zero coffee needed to rid myself of the sluggishness. Only been about 3/4 warm, sunny days and it's already working wonders on my energy-levels and general feeling of wellbeing after such a grey, wet and gloomy period. Incredibly how healing the sun really is, it's no wonder why it was universally worshiped as the main 'god' in pretty much every pre-modern culture.

Blue this morning is vivid. Love it.

In Absence of True Seasons it does make such a huge difference doesn’t it?

First night sleeping with the windows open, woke up just before 6 and was raring to go - stark contrast to the last 8 months where I wake up at 7ish and don’t feel human until about 9am.

Just looked at the models and hoped they’d be better than GFS. Nope…..wouldn’t be surprised now if we go the rest of the month down here without another 20C.

Azazel More or less the same as me. I get progressively groggier and just generally 'unhealthy' feeling from Oct to April but the degree to that feeling is predominantly based on sunshine. Cold I'm fine with. The last 7/8 months have been particularly dull and grim so it hit harder than usual.

So now it's like someone has flipped a switch! Lights, on!

West wales benefitting from a foehn effect this morning, already 21C in Trawscoed, 20C in London and with plenty of heating hours left max temps likely to be 25.5-26.0C today.

Alderc 2.0 I don't think 25c in London. I think 24c max, particularly as there's a definite increase of haze coming in which didn't happen yesterday - which i imagine will subdue the temps a tad.

As nice as it is to finally get some warm, dry weather, it would really be nice to see some blue sky too. Today is again "bright" but there's so much cloud and clag that the sky is white and the sunshine very hazy. It'll inevitably clear by the evening as usual but it would be nice to just get a clear day for once!

reef Same here. Yesterday had a blue sky all day but today is whiter.

Been a decent first third of May here, plenty of warm sunshine, can’t complain. However if the dross returning next week isn’t brief, this’ll go down as one of the worst springs.

I hope the slack cut off low next week gives us thunderstorms and a warm sunshine and showers pattern.

Really disappointing from Darren Bett. Mini heatwave? Absolute rubbish. Would expect that from the tabloids.

I agree it's frustrating from a platform that should know better. In fairness to the byline, it could be the curse of the sub-editor.

rwtwm Quite possibly. The article itself doesn't mention anything about a heatwave. But still very disappointing from the BBC, but then their weather and science content in general in recent years has been dreadful. The pandemic exposed many of their writers as being utterly illiterate when it comes to science and data. Anyway, the article itself...

Very warm and sunny at the moment, but for how long will it last?

Azazel I wouldn't say it is horrendous, Monday ain't looking fantastic I must admit but the remainder of the week is looking alright and any rain that falls could be showery and thundery, anyway the forecast you are looking at says 30 to 40% each with the exception of Monday and clearly the temps will be higher than what is forecast on that app you got.

Only thing I don't like is that this weather is bringing out all the wasps.

Mosquitos I find are the issue here. Sit down somewhere in the countryside and they all just start swarming me. Probably after so much rain recently that brings them out when it turns warm.
