I said I’d be back in Feb 🤭 😉

Today’s 12z UKMO is showing exceptional delights in a weeks time 😋

Edit ….please don’t take charts like these to heart….at this stage it’s all about enjoying the potential that’s all 😉

Dancerwithwings Yes it's looking very promising for some battle-ground disruptive snowfall. Something to lift the spirits at last 😊

Incredible sunset tonight, there's been some amazing colours recently after what's felt like there's been none before recent days!

I can guarantee that this cold spell will verify. How can I be so sure...? Because I'll be out of the country (Netherlands) for a week from the 7th. So there will be snowmageddon at home while I'm gone and probably in the mild and damp of Holland, and then when I get back here winter will have ended after an epic, week long snow event.

You heard it here first! 😉

Nice GFS 6z, with snow risk starting as early as Wednesday night and continuing into next Friday.

Max of 13.4C today, which is the second warmest 2nd of February in 132 years of recording, behind 2004's date record of 14.2C.

Felt closer to April in that sunshine today!

Well after a couple of weeks of welcome dry weather, some unexpected rain has started falling, not too heavy mind. With regards to the eye candy above, there is very little chance it will verify away from Scotland so don't get too excited boys and gals.

Nice ECM.

I wonder how many in the model forum will again be hoping this ends up south of the UK to leave many areas dry and boring before it turns milder later. Or maybe they’ll finally have learned their lesson.

MattStoke such a lovely run. Hopefully it stays like this but such high uncertainty makes it unlikely for now. Most on the model thread think it's too far south though.

MattStoke But Matt we need to lock the cold in so we can have sun and 3c for a week before the Atlantic takes over!

As long as trains are running on Saturday, I'd love to see a thin blanket of snow glistening in the sun! Much nicer than hours of cold rain, certainly. Anything sufficient to still disrupt the transport that day would be a total disaster for me personally, so oddly enough it would make my winter *worse*, not better! I appreciate that's just me, though. As I say, my own ideal would be a nice sunny winter wonderland but not too much to stop transport. That would be perfect.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
