MARK...I have had a good rethink and I have decided to raise my estimate to an October CET of 8.5C. Sorry :)

After a warm first ten days perhaps, volatile changes and stormy weather with one episode of almost wintry cold before the month ends, dragging the CET down from near 13 to a final resting place of 10.6 C ... can you stand the excitement?

CET: 10.8c

Rainfall: 80%

Mainly warm and fairly wet in the first week. Then becoming a bit colder as winds swing more easterly, but dry. Later in the period I think we'll see high pressure over the top of the UK allowing some fog and frost in places. Turning a bit more unsettled in the last week.

Okay I am going for 10.9 nothing overly mild but yes above the average, however, I think after the first week temps will be preety much consistently at the average mark with at least a short spell perhaps near the 20th of below average.

Going to up my prediction to 11.5C since it's looking like a rather warm start.

SSTA bias around CET area is currently above average +1/+2C.

Scotland northwards there are notably colder than average SSTs which could help cool Scandinavia and chill the northerlies and easterlies (if there are any).

Synoptics suggest warm southerlies for the first week of the month then, possibly, a cooler spell.

I'm going to guess that Scandinavia will get decent cooling this October so easterlies as well as northerlies will be cold.

I'm also going to guess that there will be slightly fewer southerlies and westerlies than northerlies or easterlies, which leaves air influence slightly below average by -0.75c.

Add on a SSTA bias of +1.25C and my prediction is the same as damianslaw...

+10.9C (+0.5C)

11.5c for me please!

Have a feeling that it could be a mild month, quite dry till mid-month that wet and windy second half (but still mild).

It does look like a settled and mild start, although I expect the effect of this to be mitigated by a cooler, perhaps more disturbed, second half of the month. So I'll go for 11.1c
