Sussex here!! Black sky to my West. Can here a few distance rumbles of thunder...no rain!

It's on it's way WestSussex1, we just had the storm here and it was building all the time, I can hear frequent loud rumbles from it still as it trundles east.

End of this trough (oooh about 30 miles to my S) has really come to life!

Surrey, Sussex and Kent are going to get slammed in the coming hour or two unless it weakens! And I will no doubt see the pitch black skies to my S getting nothing out of it :(

The tail end is just one white blob, and if it keeps its current track it will go right through my post code :(

Strangely nothing showing up on N-W's lightning detector at the moment, but a line of showers passing just south and east of Norwich has taken off into a thunderstorm- frequent rumbles and I somewhat fortuitously caught 5 flashes of lightning on camera! (Using video mode of course)

As I am about to watch that line run along my S - it hurts! Even more so knowing it will slam my home area in about the next two hours :yahoo:

Can see lightning over Redhill way and the north of the airport. Just a long train of dark cloud from north east to my north west! No sure if any of them are going to hit here but it's nice to view them!

Well the showers down here are certainly weakening now and becoming well scattered. Good fun this morning in Taunton. At around 11:30 in Homebase - the evil sky opened its doors to let the monsoon type rain fall. Its bliming loud when torrential rain and small hail fall onto a metal roof! Roads were awash with localised flooding too.

You know its going to be torrential when the sky stays black/purple even when the sun goes 'in'.

Slowly settling down here now and I expect that to spread slowly Eastwards.

Tbh, it doesn't look like you'll be missing much judging by Radar, has it got any sferics, this line of showers? Just that the NW lightning detector is stuck again. To me, it looks like you'll be missing thundery showers.

Yep, I posted about the lack of sferics on the NW Radar earlier, wondering if the trough was dying out, but evidently not!...IOW detector is tracking 4 storms in the SE of England

Another line of showers with intense echoes now drifting SE down through Cheshire into North Staffs just about to hit stoke, also more discrete cells firing up to the west of me, round 3 perhaps?..

Back now - late luch and then distracted by other matters.

Fairly impressive storm passed to the SE of us - first thunder heard at 14:27, heavy rain and some bright lightning flashes observed (from my vantage point I was unable to see whether they were CG or IC. A lot of turbulent clouds still hanging around and the occasional faint rumble heard still.

Thunder continuing to south and S.E. from slow moving Cb (Redhill direction).

Third lot of thunder this month at Guildford.

First rumble was at 12:46 pm and increased after 1 pm as the Cb cell moved E.N.E. over the Guildford area. Although raining steadily, there was a very heavy burst at 1:15 ~ 1:17 pm. Thunder quickly became infrequent after 1:20 pm then there was renewed activity to the west at 2:06 pm with especially loud booms at 2:29 pm and 2:33 pm. Rumbles continued periodically to 3:14 pm. No lightning was seen in these two outbreaks. There were short heavy showers with the heaviest rain at 2:15 pm. About 9 mm rain has fallen today, 7 mm from these thundery showers.

2 mm had fallen before Noon in morning showers where no thunder was heard. I cycled from Guildford to the Cranleigh area and was caught in a heavy prolonged shower at 7:10 am to 7:55 am (Winterfold Hill) and 10:10 am to 11:10 am, very heavy rain at 10:48 am to 10:55 am (Run Common). More than 2 mm fell in these showers.

There was an impressive Cb anvil to the east on leaving at 4:30 am. Met Office radar showed this to be over North Kent at the time. A developing Cb to the south and S.W. seemed to be producing rain over the Haselmere area as seen from Pewley Hill at 5:10 am. This area of showers had a clearly defined edge which seemed to be over the Albury and Blackheath area just before passing thorugh, where dry ground changed to wet ferns and then puddles in the road about 100 metres further on. A second pulse from this development brought the soaking just after 7 am. I may upload the cloud photos when sorted the camera out.
