Listnened to Radio Wales on the way home today - they are already warning about the possibility of heavy snow with the Eatern Block of cold air sat over Wales - I thought he said from around the 5th or 6th Feb but I might be mistaken - did anyone else hear this today? sounds like what Andy was mentioning earlier on in the thread.

fantastic full moon, and heavy hail showers here and lovely sky with pretty floating clouds.. and blumming cold.yahoo.gif can pretend the white on the ground is snow not hail, still looks pretty.

situation is changing all the time regarding the details for this coming week - depending on where the border for this block is and then the front which will be held up and drop all it's lovely snow cause it'll be cooled by the blocking high - could be Wales - could be the east of england but for defo now the easterly around the 7th - 8th is virtually a dead cert! which could spawn a cold spell lasting a good 10 days plus!

A link was posted up in regards to the martian sunset the other day and part of the article explained how the moon would appear at its largest this month 30% brighter than usual and at its biggest for this year. cannot find the link but very intresting reading and the red star near the moon is actually Mars

cardiff barrage

temp 4.5c

dp -1.7

average windspeed 12mph from NW

sorry meant brighter not bigger

Top marks to the GFS model output - got today's weather exactly right times and all several days ago.

A snow shower here earlier, with a graupel shower at lower levels. Temp 2c at 5pm.

The graphic shows the effect of the steamer tonight.

No guarantees of course, but looking good for this evening.

Looking good for streamers. In fact the radar suggests the Cheshire Gap streamer has begun. Precip seems to be building up from around the same time all the time currently.

I dont think you are, just watch the radar mate lol.

Just looked at rain today, and the showers are dying before they get here! And think any streamer will be too far west aswell. Still plenty of time though and we could see something over the weekend maybe.

GFS is showing a quieter day for showers tomorrow but sunday is looking good again for a more wider range for snow showers

Just a small note - full moon is tomorrow not today. I hope the skies tomorrow are either a) clear to see a great full moon / mars view, or  so full of snow you can't see 20 yards.

Had a heavy snow shower here about half hour ago mountains have a dusting that hasn't melted we had a dusting here but it has thawed second dusting to thaw shows how before when we had cooler ground but this is all cooling ground temps. Those saying winter is over is absolute trash, Its the first day the cold is here quicker, what more can you want from this cold spell? the more northwesterly the wind the better it is for you in Tycoch so i dont see what your moaning about.

Hi, I Live in brynmawr...gwent......top of the world they call it here.....i am scottish but married a welsh man...it is freezing dont know temps but it must be -7 ...we have had some sleety showers today but it is freezing on the ground now... winters not over as you said...keep you updated.....

In defence of Sianel Pedwar Cymru, They do not produce the weather forecasts its Itv, and in all fairness theyre weather forecasts are usually good what is written in the paper i clearly doesnt resemble theyre weather programmes or theyre weather website take a look. They have preformed better than the Bbc even if theyre forecasts do look outdated and old fashioned. And he is a good forecaster but the trouble with writing in the paper is that things change in hours and therefore are never accurate to be fair there should be a general prediction not a certain dab dab this tempreature etc because those are way out so trebble what the tempreatures are likely to be.

No, his forecasts in the Cambrian News are consistently way off the mark I am afraid, no excuses- S4C or not!

Misleading in the extreme his latest 'efforts'. Anyone with an ounce of forecasting prowess would not be predicting 11c for this Sunday, let alone 14c for Tuesday. This much has been clear from the BBC/MO/Net for at least a week now.

Not the Dereck kiss of death we hope!

At least a chance of snow showers over this weekend, although day times temperatures may well see coverings rather temporary and thawing slowly away (maxes around 3-4c forecast).

As for later next week, the easterly is still in the balance so best enjoy the here and now.

I think a new trend is slowly emerging on the models for Wales for next week - a snowy battleground setup as we get stuck between the building blocking high and potentially undercutting lows from the atlantic. ECM in particular shows great potential for this. And this could be the prelude to potential easterly. Interesting times...

Temp currently 0.8C and it dips to about 0.1 each time a snow shower comes.

Just something to bear in mind

Some of these showers, whilst heavy, can come and go very quickly. I think the last one lasted only 5-6 minutes.

A lot of cloud has passed over nothing here though, the clouds are moving slower than earlier however.
