At least were close to the amber warning yesterday it was upto around Birmingham. If that low that develops near ireland is just slightly more intense than projected the whole lot could be pushed further north east.

Amber Warning of Snow for East Midlands :

Derbyshire & Northamptonshire

Valid from: 0300 on Fri 18 Jan 2013

Valid to: 2100 on Fri 18 Jan 2013

A band of snow, heavy in places, will spread northeastwards across Wales and the southwestern half of England, during Friday morning, lasting through the afternoon and evening across much of Wales, the Midlands, southern and parts of southeast England. Winds will strengthen, leading to drifting of lying snow.

Many parts of the Red Warning area are likely to have 20-30 cm of snow with strong southeasterly winds causing blizzards, severe drifting of lying snow and thus severe disruption. The public should avoid all non-essential journeys.

Elsewhere, accumulations of more than 5-10 cm of snow will occur quite widely, with 15 cm in some western parts of the Amber area, falling within 3-6 hours. The public should be prepared for disruption, including altering travel plans.

Please watch for updates to these warnings.

One can hope. We'll see what 12z brings.

I think we will get a fresh covering of snow just not as good as further west, let not forget we could also do well from Snow Showers coming in from the East on saturday, there is certainly no reason for doom and gloom in my opinion

Light snow for the last 15 minutes has turned slightly heavier here in Newark, a nice little taster. :) Still have approx 5cm pretty much 100% cover

Where in LE3 do you live again mate? I ride over Western Park daily when I go work and there's still plenty of snow on it! Sadly most of the roads and pavements have none left though :(

Moderate snowfall here and with this shower cluster intensifying (and indeed expanding!) on each run it could be something to watch for the guys in Lincs.

Latest nae precip accumulation gives probably between 2-3 inches for most of the East Midlands over the next 48 hrs.

Looks like its heading East and possibly may hit South/West Lincs in the next couple of hours if it doesnt fragment and dissipate

It's intensifying and expanding, wouldn't rule out it connecting with the band behind it over the next few hours - MetOffice now going for 3-4 hours snowfall here.

Snowing lightly here too, where did this come from? Didn't expect any snow at all today wacko.png Radar looks like it's building up around the Midlands as well.

Very shocked to read that MCT and indeed an awesome surprise if it comes off. A few light snow flurries at the moment in Nottingham

The band that is now developing in Central/Eastern Midlands that has brought persistent light/moderate snow to Newark for over an hour at the present time, should serve as a reminder to those of you panicking over each chart.

Unpredictable things do happen and looking at charts 12 hours prior to an event will give you little confidence - it's much better to wait to see the band appear on the radar and nowcast on it's progress at this stage!!!
