I wonder if Blob is giving a reasonable snowfall in the Southwold / Aldeburgh area?

I see Floaty made the local newspaper... I hope she's feeling better today.

Amber Warning of Snow18 Jan 2013, 03:00

Amber Warning of Snow

Valid From: 18 Jan 2013, 03:00

Valid To: 18 Jan 2013, 21:00

Issued at - 17 Jan 2013, 12:30

Valid from - 18 Jan 2013, 03:00

Valid to - 18 Jan 2013, 21:00

A band of snow, heavy in places, will spread northeastwards across Wales and the southwestern half of England, during Friday morning, lasting through the afternoon and evening across much of Wales, the Midlands, southern and parts of southeast England. Winds will strengthen, leading to drifting of lying snow.

Many parts of the Red Warning area are likely to have 20-30 cm of snow with strong southeasterly winds causing blizzards, severe drifting of lying snow and thus severe disruption. The public should avoid all non-essential journeys.

Elsewhere, accumulations of more than 5-10 cm of snow will occur quite widely, with 15 cm in some western parts of the Amber area, falling within 3-6 hours. The public should be prepared for disruption, including altering travel plans.

In summary we could have 0cm, 0-2cm, 2-5cm or some parts might have between 5-10cm with others in the very most western part of region possibly having 15cm or more. Saturday and Sunday have been marked as possible snow days as well. Looks like at end of Sunday plenty in region might have done rather well. Say on average 5cm to 10cm?

I find that a bit strange...there's a red warning symbol for snow across many amber regions, yet those in yellow warnings have just got yellow symbols.

Anyone know why? Are they going to upgrade the amber warnings to red in time?

Western half of the county.

West Herts and East Herts often seem to have very different fortunes. I think actually West Herts a favoured area whatever direction. You often still do well from things coming from East or North East or North West as well as South West.

As a side note.....there is also a warning for Saturday and Sunday........

"The band of snow will slowly weaken through Saturday morning with further accumulations of 5 cm over central areas. Further snow showers will spread into many eastern areas giving 2-5 cm of snow in places and as much as 10 cm over high ground. During the evening ice will form in many areas where there is snow cover, lasting into Sunday morning. "

So even if the front doesn't provide the east of the region with much....there is still hope!

Purple Rain, purple rain, ... bordering Norfolk and extending into Lincs. Seems a bit unlikely given that it's still sub-zero here and down to -10 or so at night. I don't trust any of these precip charts.

We have gone to a red warning. Would that be right then. Should we be worrying/celebrating?

We're only under a yellow here currently for tomorrow. The red area is South Wales.

I was wondering about that too. Particularly as we still have lying snow from Monday and we have tickets for the Outdoor Show at Excel London for Saturday. Now wondering if the trains will be running into London on Saturday.....
