Just to reinstate what I was saying...

Why does it show this?

London & South East England

snow-red.gif

Im guessing as a cautionary measure for possible upgrades.

W/SW Herts seems the be the sweet spot on this run. Im guessing 15/20 cm in these locations.

Of course it's not an IMBY thing is it? rofl.gif

It seems to be a glitch with the page. Our region is not under the red warning.

Red means take action. Perhaps they mean avoid travel on Friday but race off now to stockpile wine and chocolate? Bye, see you later...

It looks like the red warning and the text are generic. Whichever amber region you click it's the same text, only the map changes

Perhaps a mistake?

The "best" part for snow is South Wales. Although perhaps people will be wishing it wasn't the best, when they get 30+ cm of snow tomorrow and blizzard conditions. Lots of people are going to be left stranded in cars, and temperatures at night going into the weekend & next week with lying snow could approach -15 -> -20 the way things are forecasted, especially in the higher areas.

For much of our area/region, the further south and west you are in it, the better. Most favoured I'd say are south bucks & south/west herts. Think High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, etc... I'd expect Berkshire to do very well indeed, but not covered by this thread.

For me in Aylesbury, I'm expecting somewhere in the region of 4-10cm given the current charts by the end of Saturday, what actually happens will be mostly down to how fast the front moves across the country. For us, we want it to move slightly faster than progged.

Any update for Ware/Hertford areas?

Bit far east for the heaviest, but should get some snow, at least a few cm.

Is a good graphic of the latest NAE run, which shows precipitation accumulation over the next 48 hours (so doesn't yet include Saturday's light snow).

We're only under a yellow here currently for tomorrow. The red area is South Wales.

Ah, yes. Just looked at the maps as opposed to just the graph thingy. And it's definitely Amber. :o

I find that a bit strange...there's a red warning symbol for snow across many amber regions, yet those in yellow warnings have just got yellow symbols.

Anyone know why? Are they going to upgrade the amber warnings to red in time?

i have noticed things like that when they in the middle of updating it

Short term snow outlook not so good. The Blob seems to be breaking up over land and dew points here have just shot up over the 0oC mark. Pah.

Eeeeek!!!!!

No, it's a glitch. Essex is mainly yellow, for now.

Afternoon all,

Been staring at the radar for the whole morning watching the "BLOB" in the north sea. At last the skies to the east here in Felixstowe are getting darker and cloud is finally pushing in!! Will update on anything falling for those of you south of here.

Do we think it will amount too much seeing that is very slow moving? By that I mean 2/3cm (don't want to be greedy!!)

Nick

Think the Met Office issue the area as Amber warning indicating that within the Amber Warning area there is a red warning

Think it also means that the Amber can become a red due to the severity of the weather and the Met office being more cautious and trying not to get caught out

It depends where the symbol on the map is which usually means which way the Red Warning will spread if it develops over a certain period.

Noticed it has been moved to the north now.

Was at Southwold taking my mum out for lunch on the pier. Lot of cloud along coast with gentle snow falling. Excellent cod and chips.
