Good chance of some north sea wintry showers on friday night as a northerly toppler

heads our way for the weekend.

Uppers are -7/-8

Yes,that wind was pretty strong today and wreaked havoc around here as it was wheelie bin day.

Has it suffered because of the wind as well?

According to one of the drivers at work, it was snowing here in South Shields a couple of hours ago, not heavy and only small flakes. I cant confirm as I cant see outside from my desk,

A few showers beginning to fire in off the north sea now,so maybe a dusting/light covering for

some places by the morning.

Some interest next week as well, illustrated by this cherry picked snippet from the met-office

6-15 day forecast.biggrin.png

the showers especially affecting eastern coastal areas, where they could be heavy and thundery with hail and snow.

Looking forward to a lovely cold winter's day tomorrow, should be dry with plenty of blue sky and sunshine.. far too few such days this winter so far, mind February is the month when we are most likely to see such days. Its not renowned for being a particularly wet month.

Was snowing heavily at Newcastle train station at about 9.45pm. There has been intermittent snow showers here in Gateshead since. I've just put something in the bin outside and its frozen on top.

A slight covering tonight ???

Light dusting here on the coast and very icy. Most should disappear today (fantastic day of wall to wall sunshine) and all will have gone tomorrow with temperatures on the rise.

EC 12z was incredible for us!

Anyway, from Wednesday, things turn colder for us-

Recm961.gif

Straight N'ly, a few troughs and disruptions in the flow could give snow inland, but a day of sun and snow shrs is likely, more persistent near the coast.

Recm1681.gif

After that, a few days with a very cold NW/N flow as the upper high ridges into Scandinavia, sharp frosts and some snow showers likely. By Saturday, the advancing cold pool advects westward and the convective window opens, a NE flow with -8c 850s.

Recm2401.gif

The cold pool then advances and some disruptions in a cold NE/E flow give heavy snow shrs, with -8c/-9c 850s widespread throughout the weekend and into Tuesday. The 216 and 240 charts are glorious- severe snow showers brought on a by a stiff ENE wind.

Interesting times to come again.

Unfortunately no support on the ensembles or the GFS.
