karyo , stop kidding yourself

warmth is generally needed somewhere in the mix for storms , hence hardly any in the polar regions and almost daily occurrences in the tropics

the recent thundery episode in manchester area is due to the heat plume,   not cold north sourced air,   starting with that mega lightning show on wedenesaday night , there is  still residual warmth in the atmosphere, but the intesity of the thundery showers are waning now , until we get the next starter, ie another plume event,

thunder in autumm and winter is also a result of residual warmth from summer staying in the sea, the cold uppers in the northerlies are the trigger this time, hence why the thunder tends to happen in coastal areas in winter  , were the warmth is !

Thankfully most of today's showers have stayed south of us although one very heavy one earlier today did give a couple of claps of thunder.

Plenty of threatening clouds about though and showers in the Irish Sea which look to be heading this way.

Pesky streamer setup today - little blobs on the radar giving frequent spells of quite heavy showers at times... quite unlucky but at least the water table's been topped up.

Chilly breeze! Talk of snow on the Scottish mountains!! Doesn't feel like July at all, last week was great, well, for the two whole days of heat I got!!

Thunderbolt_ will love it in Jan!

...'cause that's the time of year where it belongs, but not in July.

I do respect Scott's likes just slightly bemused.

Very typical of the general British public really - hot summers and mild winters.

Anyway back onto regional discussion. I've had some very heavy downpours today. It probably has to have been the wettest day since May.

Not a bad day but with a maximum here of 16c and a nagging breeze, hardly summer like.

It certainly made me smile last night though when the forecasters were announcing the spectacular news that today would be 16c lower than this time last week.

Shame they didn't realise that much of our region saw a 16c fall within 24 hours last week, never mind 7 days.

Anyway a slight warm up over the next couple of days should make it feel a bit better, just hope it can last through the weekend.

Same here ,jobs piling up ,and it would be nice to have a BBQ :)...

Almost had one on Sunday but just as I went to get it out of the shed the heavens opened and it peeeeed it down for the next couple of hours.

At least it didn't wait until we'd lit it though.

A good day here, light breeze and plenty of sunshine though temps not up too much at 18 degrees which is a bit below July average. Still a decent day and most likely the best one of the week - it was a cold start mind.

27.5C, not a cloud in the sky. This is what summer is about! That sun is absolutely scorching! :D
