Only a covering on fields here, just shows this was a very situational event.

Thursday / Friday seems to becoming more likely, possibility of 10cm across our part of the Pennines from that one.

Yes Thursday looks decent for 300m+ asl. For now I can't see any chance for lower levels unless ppn arrives very early morning on Thursday.

Warning now issued for Friday for the Pennines from Huddersfield northwards.

Quote

Frequent wintry showers arriving from the west overnight Thursday into Friday are likely to lead to a fresh covering of snow for areas above 200m (mainly around 2-5 cm, possibly as much as 10 cm over highest ground where showers are most frequent). Falling snow below this level may cause some temporary slushy accumulations which then may freeze and cause dangerous, icy patches where skies remain clear for long enough. These showers will turn increasingly to rain and sleet at lower levels through Friday morning, before steadily easing from the west through the afternoon ahead of an area of rain and milder conditions.

Can you add your nearest town please? Otherwise your reports don't mean much to be honest

thank you

Does anyone know how I can officially confirm that it snowed in Sheffield on 25th December?

Having an argument with a bookmaker!

And struggling to find historical records anywhere.  Thanks.

I wasn’t aware it had snowed in Sheffield, it snowed in my location about 10mins past 12midnight making it the 26th and the front bringing the snow was travelling south? Although they officially paid out for Leeds Bradford airport which is slightly south east from me. Unless it was due to snow flurries earlier in the day?

Don't know how to confirm it, only anecdotally (like here  ), but yep, Penistone had a few snow showers around lunch/ early afternoon.

It was just starting as we arrived for our Christmas Dinner at Grandma's

Do you really can place bets for snow in Christmas?! How both sides can prove that happened or not? Does METO have thousands of official stations in every single town or city?

It looks like we're just out of the warning area here in North Yorkshire.

I reckon we will miss out completely at the coast. Everything points to rain with just a bit of sleety stuff maybe.

I reckon Friday morning is better. Some heavy snow symbols on Met Office for LBA now and updated 6z Euro4 looks decent.

We haven’t had any snow here since that snowfall in November so hopefully we get something over the next couple of days.

Hope you find can find out pal and keep me informed. Was it designated a particular area in Sheffield like the city centre? By this I mean Leeds/Bradford airport was on the bet but Leeds and Bradford in general wasn’t on the app I used. Or was it just anywhere in Sheffield?

edit: maybe clear that up with the bookies as if they meant a spastic area like the city centre then perhaps that is the reason for not paying out.

It has to be a specific part of the city in question not just in someone's suburb I.e for Leeds it's the airport.  I'm pretty sure for Sheffield it's Weston Park weather station, that's where they take their readings for temperature data etc. So falling snow there would count as a white Christmas but a quarter of a mile up the road in Broomhill, it wouldn't count if that makes sense. I live about a mile from weston Park and we did get a slight covering but it was around midnight so couldn't say for sure if it wasn't actually boxing day. Regards
