First flakes of snow of winter here too mixed in the sleet showers with a strong wind at 3c.

Eerirely calm here (at the moment) do expect the wind to pick up but not sure to what extent. Not half cold too

Nobody mentioned anything about 100mph+ guts at Falkirk (well, you did) but nonetheless if the system deepens and moves a touch closer to the shoreline (entirely possible), then yes, the winds will pick up inland. Right now nobody knows what will unfold. It might even head further east and we mainly all miss a bullet. I'd stick to Fife coast being hammered though.

Nice to see this place busy with some excitement.

@Northernlights I was up your way last week, along at Findhorn. Lovely setting there and was pleasantly surprised by how picturesque it is up there, especially as it’s not far until you’re up on the Dava Moor which is so bleak.

Arwen starting to make her presence felt up Peterhead. Very gusty accompanied by heavy showers. The red zone appears to be from 5pm onwards where gusts in excess of 80mph are forecast.

A lively drive to work on the east Sutherland coast. Sideways rain, sleet and snow in the mix. It’s a day for dossing in-front of the stove watching the Beatles doc but alas i’m out in this mess. Raw as hell. All white back at the house.

Proper blizzard outside now, met office forecast had us down for rain all day!

Snow starting to stick on the grass...

Currently 1.9c and wind really picking up.  Suspect this is going to be a memorable storm.

Edit - Glens of Foudland already impressively white so early in the event...

Been up to my eyes at work and not been following things. Had a double take at the red warning! Certainly looking a lively spell of weather. 
 

Blue sky and just a brisk breeze here this morning.

I'm roughly ten miles west of the red warning area. Is that within the margin of error for these type of warnings?

Was very calm up to five minutes ago, now there's sleet blowing right into the front window. A bit on the nippy side too, 2.7c . Not going to be a pleasant day here and will be pure hell over on the east coast. Stay safe everyone!

I’m only 200m from the sea and right in the middle of the red warning area. Have cleared the garden of anything that can move (I hope). Just told my other half she shouldn’t go out to meet friends this evening so I’m not popular

Storm Arwen forecast

  have had a go at marking the wind areas  

YELLOW LINES - I done these extending west this will be gusts from 50mph to 60mph mostly 

PURPLE AREA - I am going for *at least 120kmh gusts which is right around 75mph but as the wrf 2km gif shows and I believe thats a reason behind the red warning, there are bigger gusts mixing in so don't rule out the speed I describe in the red zones turning up in some places within the purple area at times 

RED - The zone I see having the highest shot at the gusts close to or maybe creeping above 100mph 

The pressure of Storm Arwen looks to drop to 972hPa 

wrf and ukv close with things starting to liven up from the north from 3pm and red warning-esque conditions I am estimating starting from 6 or 7pm 

Think everyone realises the wind is the number one focus, Snow looks deepest likely eastern side of Cairngorms and as it moves into the south of Scotland / borders

Loads of great analysis in here as usual.

Eerily quiet cos the adjacent barn shields us from the north, but very lightly snowing a moment ago despite being a balmy 4.5C! I spent an hour this morning moving the weather station away from its normal SW-prone position to somewhere a bit more exposed to the north. Really curious to see what happens up here in a northerly gale like this.....but also filling saucepans just in case there's a power cut, cos we need the electric to draw water via the pump.

Have to say, feels like it's been years since we've had a big storm here. Back in 2011/2012 it felt like we got them all the time, even in May, and I do remember there being a steady supply of fire wood from all the beech trees coming down. Haven't been able to saw up a downed tree in a very long time.

Snow showers on and off all morning, light covering in the garden but Bennachie looks white when it clears enough to catch a glimpse. 

Pretty windy but nothing exceptional on that front yet. Heading out with the dog before the worst of it sets in.

Well it's turned very white in Westhill, which I wasn't expecting, certainly not at this stage. Properly heavy and dry snow at times too.

On the drive from Alford this morning the car was showing 2/3C and I drove through plenty of heavyish showers of sleet and wet snow. Nothing really lying at road level then, but the hills looked as if they were trying to turn white with wet snow. I'm expecting the drive back to Alford tonight to be even more 'interesting' as the winds ramp up, and MetO forecast showing heavy snow from 16:00.
