Well, first half if Feb looks a write off .

Heaviest snow for us was last day of November .

Winter rating 1/10.

Im going an extra two points of 3/10 due to the fact it's not been a Atlantic onslaught. Dried out quite a bit. Lol

Amazingly, in the South East where i am, using my closest weather station (Shoeburyness) we had more sunshine in January (103 hours) than London Heathrow had in August (96 hours)!

Fingers crossed for a 3 month Arctic freeze starting in November

TBH I think we might waiting for the AMO to flip before we can dream of such long freezes in Winter.

The more I read about the AMO the more convinced I am that it's a big player Kevin .

I saw you bring this up a few days ago. When can we expect that to happen then, or is it anyone's guess?

It's been incredibly dry in the south for several weeks (Devon)

I’m guessing that would be a once in a 200 year event at best

if february is going to be like this where I am in the southeast then i'm happy for the high pressure to stay, so much better then the middle of january where it went from clear skies to gloomy featureless skies for days on end making people's mood so miserable.

Whereas I had the best summer on record last year though there were no extremes. Just pleasant 20C to 24C for day after day with virtually no rain.

It does seem to happen quite often that when the more Southerly parts of the UK get poor weather then the North benefits or (more often) the other way around.

Another example was the extensive flooding in that wet year a few years ago when the Somerset levels flooded but only became a problem for the Govt when the leafy Thames suburbs also started flooding. That year we had it pretty good up here.

Do you mean winter 13/14..? There hasn’t been any extensive summer flooding in Somerset for yonks... just standard storm-related more localised flash flooding.

June and July were good down here that year. May and August were poor though.

I  realised I had written summer, so edited it a couple of minutes later but you were too quick for me.

I couldn't remember whether it was winter or spring so wasn't specific.

Personally, I am not interested in spring-like weather in the first half of Feb as we are still in high winter. And vice versa with autumnal weather during first half of August.

I am hoping for a decent wintry storm or two or some more frosty cold blue sky days before winter is out. On the other hand, March is often colder than December. So I wouldn't be surprised if we get the best of the wintry conditions during March.

Sunniest Jan on record for some and very dry, unusual combination. Much better than dull and wet so far winter far better in my ranking than likes of 13-14, 15-16, 16-17, 18-19 and 19-20.

January was an ok month, not as good as last year but we got a good number of frosts and sunny days. Looks like February is turning out to be very mild, similar to how Feb 2020 panned out with virtually no cold in the next 2 weeks. It’s been an awful winter so far, even winter 2019/20 had ice days.

When were these exactly. I don't remember even 1 ice day in winter 2019/20, just wind and rain mainly.

Was it 2018/19 you were thinking of when we got a few cold days end of Jan and start of Feb?

Sunniest January on record for England and 3rd sunniest across U.K.

Very dry January for the South and right up the East coast. 12.8mms for me just to the West of Dundee in Eastern Scotland.

A very dry January with 14.0mm for the month. 11 out of the 31 days had rain, with the 3rd the wettest day

Not sure I agree it’s February that has repeatedly delivered down here.
