What a gorgeous day so far, cooler, grey skies this morning & some rain, absolute bliss compared to the last 4 days of oppressive heat!

Yep, sun has been out since lunchtime here also and that should heat things up nicely for some potential heavy downpours and 'sferics.

Seems to be a line of unsettled weather in Cornwall heading toward us just in time for peak heating.

Netweather Radar extra with lightning strikes/dots and the 3 hour accumulation radar showing totals.

There is a drift northeastwards this afternoon with new cells appearing over or near to the A30

Radar shows the activity over higher ground, Bodmin and Exmoor, at the mo. Will they just fizzle out over lower territory?

Edit: A few spots of rain now

I notice that the large thunderstorm over Devon currently is slowly moving E/NE up the M5, albeit weakening.

I'm under no illusions that once it reaches Weston Super Mud, the electrical element of it will dissipate and I will receive the dregs!

I swear I just heard thunder out to my West ...

There's thunder approx 90 miles to your west?

EDIT - There are some cells that have developed rather rapidly to your west, in the Salisbury direction.

And sure enough,  just a mass of heavy rain.

What's it going to take to get a decent thunderstorm around these parts

Rapid shower development near Warminster with frequent thunder to the SW in the last few minutes.

Yep anvil forming above my location and a very discrete cell.

Radar shows very quick development!

Really not that fussed if nothing happens here during the next 48 hours, as I've done exceptionally well for storms this year.

Very strange how it’s proceeded over the 45 minutes. From nonstop thunder and no lightning seen to 4 very bright flashes and deep thunder during a downpour and now frequent thunder again as it’s clearing, unless new cells are developing.

Not a chance in hell of storms developing here today - another bust to go with the many bust before it.

And so as the history books shall note, that on the 48th day of the Great Drought in the year 2022, the skies did darken, and the juice of the skies began to fall on the parched land. The spiders that nested for so long in the Davis tipping spoon had to evacuate as action returned, once again.
