We're up at near F10 speeds for multiple hours as well.

and that is solid F8 - F10 ,   (average wind speeds) , add on the gust factor 70-80mph + quite plausible

GOH to MOG  is solid F11 , + gust factor - 80-90mph hitting the north west England coastline  .. Blackpool will be fun tonight

I just went out to try and prop up the single remaining fence panel and (excuse my old hippy ponderings) the wind feels more malevolent than yesterday. Perhaps my over active imagination was just due to the dark lol

I would say it's because there is a lot more rain, so there is the sound of the rain as well as the wind.

Well of course this hypothesis  may a load of old cobblers

Squall line seems to be hitting now but I'm not sure, I know that the backend of squall lines are more potent than the front edge though, wondering whether these are two separate squall lines or not and whether I'll be hit by the main one behind it. I've got a lot of questions that the radar doesn't seem to be answering.

Wind almost as noisy as Friday here, as the squall lines went through.  Second one only very short spell, first was slightly longer. It is still gusting strongly now.  Took my eye off the ball after Friday to be honest!  Very active spell of weather at the moment!

Nevermind, seems like I just had a 70 mph wind gust so I think that answers my question

Funny you should say that beckyonsea , I just popped out to feel the force of the wind in my face, and yes there is an eerie malevolence out and about tonight ... perhaps the darkness as you suggest ,, better the devil you can see than the one you cannot

Winds suddenly ramping up here. Last hour was just relatively windy, only now its starting to get very wild. With sodden ground, trees most likely be pulled down quite easy

I also feel the summertime gales or near gales from the East when a Spanish Plume is on the way are the spookiest. I think due to the wind coming from an unusual direction and the wind being warm, as well as being noisier due to trees being in leaf.

80mph gusts inland and 70s fairly widely. Get the impression this has been underestimated or im reading into it wrong. Especially when the worst of it looks to be early hours into rush hour?

Would be very localised.  You can see an 80 km/h hardly any distance away on the chart.

Alternatively use met office observations page .. not as pretty ... accuracy? I would hope so .. perhaps not the detail coverage required

All of 45 seconds here in Hunny

Was a fast moving feature. Had about 5 minutes of heavy squally rain with about 50 mph gusts!
Sheringham and Cromer got the full force apparently with lots of lightning and thunder there!
