It's rough here, but not on par with Eunice. Nonetheless, it's going to cause extra problems for clearing up trampolines and such..

A bit puzzled as to why NE England isn't included in the yellow Met office wind warning for tonight, with 60-70 mph gusts looking likely, and often these can be stronger to the east of high ground.

Main rain band cleared to heavy showers some hail thrown in. Winds have been fierce all day above 50mph. Gusting to 65mph since midday and still going strong. Mad weather

Lights are flickering away here now.  I wouldn't be surprised to have an imminent power cut.

Really are some wild gusts funnelling along my street.

That was one of the roughest squall lines I have witnessed here in a good while. Was literally over in minutes, but the wind was fierce (peak gust 65mph) and rain was mental. Wind has backed west now and seems somewhat stronger than before the rainband.

In my neck of the woods I feel like today has been worse than Eunice. The wind gusts have been slightly lower (although they are rapidly picking up now), however the squally rain has just been torrential. Driving on the motorway felt very dangerous, we would just get blown off the road almost.

That’s awful, I am so sorry people are sustaining damage to their properties.  It really isn’t exciting for them now is it?

Squall recently went through here and did what it says on the tin for once, really increased the wind speed. Not sure how my station only recorded 41mph, seems the biggest gusts missed my anemometer. Just up the road saw 56mph which seems more like it (they saw 63mph from Eunice so not tooo far off). 66mph on Exmouth seafront (that anemometer is far lower than the 10m standard).

It's much worse here than Friday; sustained winds, not just gusts, howling v loudly, esp out back garden.

The sustained winds have been higher here too.

I used to follow this forum many years ago, and started recently again, and followed the Eunice thread from Friday.

I have to say Franklin  the latest one is packing a bigger punch than Fridays in terms of wind and rain, we had a spell of rain and wind earlier this afternoon it was horrendous for about 5 mins felt like a freight train going past.

yeah if the power does go out, that would be 2 power cuts in less than a week due to the weather which hasn't happened before

It'll hamper recovery efforts as well, my house is still without power. Not looking good, can't wait to go to school, just to be warm.

Sorry for my ignorance, what is a squall line?, Is this something I experienced earlier this afternoon in Chester, sustained winds and heavy rain?

In terms of the longevity Franklin will outlast Eunice, atleast in my area. Forecast around 13-14 hours of wind gusts consistently over 45mph. The length of time this will go on for combined with saturated ground and already weakened or damaged structures is just a total recipe for disaster.

Its been quite breezy here for the last couple of hours but about 20 mins ago it went very calm. i can see on the radar the squall line approaching, and the rain has just started, so i'm expecting it to liven up shortly .
