Not sure that is lightning, seems to be an electrical fault shorting out.  Wet snow sticking to subzero surfaces and adding extra weight, could bring down branches onto power lines.

We've been waiting for it for a while. I think it's been pretty well established that we've been having a period of lesser activity from around 2016 - present, and some knowledgeable posters have talked about we get something of a pattern with a few years of less activity, followed by an uptick for a few years. 2022 has been a funny one. May and September were stacked and we had a plume event in what, late October(?)...but nowt in the actual summer months!

It's been a very odd year, I think I had a Storm of sorts on the 19th day of May, June, July and August so the number 19 is now my lucky number.

The 18th-19th is strangely common for notable thunderstorm events...18-19th July 2014, 18-19th July 2017, 19th June 2019, 18-19th May 2022, 18th-19th June 2022, 19th July 2022... I'm certain there's a couple I've missed too!

Bit late, but finally got round to finish editing the video of the storm we had on the 5th September. Just shows the best highlights of lightning and thunder.

Morning everyone and a merry Christmas to you all. 🎄🎅🏻😊

I was not expecting to hear the sound of distant thunder this morning! But because there is no traffic, I can just about hear some very faint rumbles in the distance. 🌩️

A nice unexpected, and most welcome Christmas present from the weather gods. 🌩️⛈️🎁😃👍🏻

Didn't expect to see this distant lightning whilst walking back from seeing family but there we are..

Thought it was a firework but there was no apparent bang 😂

Good morning and a happy new year to everyone here on Netweather. 😊🎉

Not being a fan of New Year, I went to bed early, which meant I got up early, and was treated to the sound of yet more very distant thunder! 🌩️⛈️🥳

Lets hope that 2023 produces many and juicy thunderstorms for us all. 😊

Happy new year to everyone! Only a few more months before the imports, the hopes, the dreams, and the b-b-busts begin!

I look forward to seeing this thread flourish as April turns into May and so forth... I'm also going to aim to start posting my verbose and somewhat dramatized first-hand accounts of whatever transpires this coming season like I used to when I was younger, so look forward to those taking up valuable chunks of thread space!

Let's see what 2023 has in store. 🙂

Lovely squall  with some small hail and a bit of thunder which can be heard in the second video

Saw something on Radar last night that vaguely resembled a hook! Very likely wasn't, but it's eye catching nonetheless.

Not surprising there was quite a pokey little storm out in Lyme Bay for a time. Quite a few hundred joules of CAPE overlapping the coastal areas today so expect some lively showers.

Models swing this little lot along the south coast through the evening. A fair few sferics for this time of year. Worth keeping an eye on:

...Or not, the lightning activity sank away towards France in the end. Shame!

Those naughty storms! They better be on their best behaviour throughout Spring and Summer.

New year, new Storms. No longer missing members that haven't seen one in years, no longer clippers or just staying in France and no more 'wasted' plumes 😉.
