A nice hazy and settled day here. Hopefully we'll get a few months of dry and hot weather ahead. Or, in the same vein as one of the bigger wx accounts on Twitter; prolonged unseasonably wet weather, you end up paying for it eventually… that’s the nature of weather.

Another very spring-like day here in London (IMO). Bright and calm, feeling very pleasant in the sun. I can't say I've observed buds and leaves appearing this much this early before. All of the daffodils are out. I wish they'd bring the clocks going forward, forward a month in line with February being the new March as it seems

SunSean my thoughts exactly! Makes no sense. How do we get this on the government agenda? 😆

Definately overdue a dry spell..

Last year second wettest year on record and its relentless all this rain this year apart from that very welcome cold dry spell mid january..

Last march was the wettest since 1981..

Someone posted that we haven't had eight consecutive wetter than average months for EWP (England and Wales precipitation) since the 1960s. It really is ridiculous, so people complaining about the amount of rain have got it right.

WYorksWeather Not sure I would class August 2023 or January 2024 as "wetter" than average (August was actually quite dry), but still been a washout 8 months, and March could be the 9th if the unwelcome wet weather persists deep into March. I would be peeved if we get this dross after the equinox and into April

baddie Well, you're right that they're near normal, but for the purposes of this it's the EWP average we are comparing to. So anything above average at all, even if only slightly, counts.

And there hasn't been a comparable spell on the exact same terms since the 1960s.

kold weather Spring tends to be the driest season of the year, especially in the west, a wet one doesn't bode well at all. We do appear to be in a wetter phase, after a period since March 2020 we have seen alternating dry and wet spells cancelling each other out, but since July it has been predominantly wet bar the odd brief dry period.

Looking at the mildest winter on record which now is 2015/16 all because of that monstrous december the way those SSWls were angled you can see why..

For snow days falling..

Not surprising december 0..

January 6.

Feb 4..

March 6..more snow depth in march..

April 7 days..with the deepest snow all spring..winter whatever..

13 Celsius in February - "Windows are open today and no heating is needed".
13 Celsius in October - "Brr it's cold. Heating is definitely going on".

 Downburst

2015/16 that happened here..

After the record breaking mild december..

January was much cooler 1.2c above average while february was cooler still at 0.7c above average..

March we had a few cold snaps snow it was cooler still at 0.5c below average..

Then april we had cold snaps some snow and a cold spell last week of the month soft hail covering snow showers..

0.6c below the 1971 to 2000 average for april..

Winter was very slow to start that year..

Some early budding on local poplar trees. Plenty of white blossom around and daffodils. If we have a mild March there could be a very early leaf out this year.

I've noticed a few trees that have sprouted one or two leaves already. The cherry blossoms are showing signs of emerging but they generally tend to be early, although granted not this early. Hearing a few birds singing at dusk and dawn too.

March 2024 - Very mild start, brief cooler incursion then record breaking heat (30.C on Mar 29th) and record breaking CET of 11.4.C.

April 2024 - Extremely dry and another record breaking month temperature wise with a few days north of 30.C.

  Another Lettucing of 12.4.C

May 2024 - Outrageous and frankly worrying heat in places, 38.C the peak and the CET ripped apart with an 18.1.C  Very dry!

A record breaking Spring preluding a shockingly average June and cool wet July....

I'll go out on a whim and say March and April will be cooler than February, quite an interesting statistical quirk. Then we'll see a warm, dry May to end it off.

March: CET 5.5-6.0C Cold first half, dry mild second half.

April: CET 7.5-8.0C Mild days, chilly nights. Lots of sunshine.

May: CET 13.0C-13.5C Dry and warm for the most part, possibly record breaking warm temperatures at times.

Would make an interesting spring!
