A pretty zonal 1st half to the month with an above average CET followed by a slightly cooler 2nd half with anticyclonic conditions giving warm days but cool nights. Overall I predict the CET to be 6.6c

I hope like February I'm wrong with my CET predicition for March. Hopefully this time my prediction will turn out to be 2C or more too high rather than 2C too low for February!

Right: my current analysis suggests:

An unsettled first 10 days with average to mild daytime temperatures, and mild night temperatures, with an outturn of 7.0C in the CET zone.

Middle third: colder and more settled, possible wintry showers at times but no major snow events, an outturn of 5.4C for the 11th-20th

Final third: a warm spell is likely, so CET of 9.1C for this period

Therefore, my March prediction is 7.3C

...I may yet change my mind, based on runs between now and Wednesday, but my provisional punt is ..

6.4.

..and I have: I regreted my late addition of 0.2C this month, but that's not going to deter me; once bitten, twice bitten...

the jet may well stay more south than has generally been the case recently, but the seas are still warm, and it's a warming month. Put me down for a 6.9 please Bob...

I think you'll be regretful once more at the end of March, SF: my punt is for a whisker below the 71-00 average (and only a whisker above this Feb, too), at 6.2oC

Edit: Oh bugger, I didn't miss the deadline did I?

Omposm using the 10 year rolling average from PE's "Manley" series the average is now 9c...so quite cool by recent stanfarfd!

ACB, I think you must have meant to say 7c, not 9 - but then your spelling of "standards" suggests your typing isn't at its best tonight....been at the cooking wine, have we?!

But I do take your point. March, like the rest of 'em, certainly ain't getting any colder, and my guess is distinctly below the recent norm: 6.8 or 6.9 might have been a more sensible shout. But, hey, there's already FOURTEEN of you sheep pitching for those....and besides, I just have a feeling (which I will naturally remind everyone of if that's where we end up, and quietly forget if it isn't).

Great lists, JA & SB: thank you. From a situation where nobody seemed to want to do it, we now have people fighting for the privilege! That strikes me as extremely good news.

Perhaps we should have a spinoff competion to see who can get the list in first after midnight - correctly formatted and without errors, of course?!?

Curious, I thought your prediction for March was for the warmest on record. Yet on here you're going for half a degree below average?

I have two methods which i use, the usual one, and the one in my forecast went for 9.3C, which would be the warmest on record, however another method which i have developed and seems to be more accurate, calls for 5.8C, i have decided to back that method, though if we are anywhere near 9C at the end of the month, i will back my traditional methodfor April, which calls for a CET of 10.6C.

I predict an increasingly mild/warm month and after a wet and windy first third of the month it should settle down a bit with temps nudging into the mid to upper teens celsius by mid-month onwards, maybe another unsettled phase during the last week. : ;)
