UKMO 12z and GFS 12z (and it's parallel run) at odds with eachother over how much precipitation makes it to the east of Scotland tonight and early tomorrow morning

The UKMO shows the preciptation fizzling out as it moves east across Scotland whereas the GFS shows it actually pepping up.

I'll believe it when I see it.

i know how you feel

i think that the general rule for here is that if its an easterly there's a good chance of lots of snow, a northerly very little, a westerly can bring some if its cold enough and a peculiar low that forms over london and moves up here brings disappointment and 'rein fo' scutlaand' :p

snow started here now :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

watch out highland snow!!!!!!

the main front is slightly to the southwest of us but it is trying hard to move slightly further north so heavy stuff should come through the night

Agreed. Thats about the same for here in Embra. Anything else that might look like it has the "potential" ... depressions ... fronts ... leading/edge or back/edge stuff ... thats just a lottery. And about the same odds too. :p

Have to say, the snow is pretty mega now. B)

The most interesting thing is the fact (looking a lamposts) the snow is falling from an easterly direction (wind wise) although the front is from the west. Makes me think it's feeding off the Firth of Forth and stalling..weird to say the least.

About 8 cm so far in Bishopbriggs and still heavy snow. Its been heavy here for about 2 hours although not sure how long this will last before moving on or fizzling out. The band of snow seems to have pivoted a bit so has not really moved through - I'm not complaining though!!

Hey Skye

Cumbernauld is notorious for heavy snow = poor roads.

Good to see Bishopbriggs has 8cm of snow too. Why isn't that breaking News on Sky or BBC??

Because unlike the English we don't panic at the first sight of snow :D . We can actually manage ourselves whilst our more "advanced" cousins run away crying because of some ice on a pavement in Bristol :( :o

Well according to all "British" media anyway. The BBC have a cheek it should be the EBC the way they behave :o .

A bit heavier now - but the end of the main band of ppn will pass away from here soon. Looks like only a cm for me tonight, just too far east.

Those getting a reasonable dump out of this - enjoy!

question: Will the main band move further north and hit fife directly or will it hit 'embra' directly or will the front go straight over the forth bringing decent snow to both sides?

i would reckon the third option is the most likely

another question: Will the snow front intensify as it heads east(creating a helluva blizzard)or will it slowly die out?
