feb 96 was a big snow event so you should have got that - it hit the midlands and the northwest - i think it was eskdalemuir that got massive snowfalls -we got around 6-7 inches but it snowed for 24 hours and was very cold, -6 in snow is quite rare... staffs had it really bad!

nov 96 happened in the daytime, was around 18th of the month i think.......that may have been more localised.

thanks very much for the info, will look up some old charts when i get a spare mo

Look, can we just get this clear that it's snowing all over this region! Quite heavily in places as well.

As for the Midlands, it looks like mainly rain to me.

LOL, how very wrong you are.

its not stalled if you tyoe in le10 it and then look at the 700hpa wind vectors its following that, as you can see clearly in the last 15mins or so. hopefully will bring the heavy stuff just north of oxford this way :D:) :) wheres andy gone, does he have snow now i take it?

Basically it's pivoting so the Nern half is moving SW and the Sern half is moving NE, meaning that it looks like it's stalling but really it's "spinning". It should continue to do so until somewhere between midnight and 3am, when it will quickly drag SE.

Radar looks to me like the ppn is already pivoting and receding Southeastwards on its western edge. ATM it looks like to me like the ppn is only punching Northwards on the Eastern side of England with any conviction. We might already be at the peak for the Midlands???

Certainly an anticlimax (if snow ever is) so far, compared to the hype/warnings/forecasts.

Could they have taken down those warning because they extended into tomorrow and that's not going to happen???

Len

Yep, think that band might actually reach us going by the track over the past half hour. Could be waiting another 45 mins though. Meanwhile the current snow has eased a little but those winds are really picking up.

Ppn seems to be following 300hpa wind vectors and that puts us in for a direct hit as long as it keeps it's act together.

I think you can update your sig to include 9 February :D

:) Not yet, the ground was SOAKED before this started, and did say earlier that I didn't expect any settling snow for places in the Midlands under 70m tonight... I still could be ok with that prediction lol. Has settled on the window sill though, I expect it's settling on the cars and grass now though, the precip looks like it should continue for a while yet, hoping it will settle on the soaked roads, the temp has droped to 1c now which is better than the 2c it was at at 7pm.

Well stone me! It is coming down really heavy now and beginning to stick to grass. If this keeps up Tamworth is in business!
