I will take that as a sign \leicester might be about to change from rain to snow . How far are you from Junction 21 of the m1/m69

I'd say abot 4 to 5 miles west

Snow has stopped here in Malvern now, as expected. Looks like that's it for the night in this neck of the woods, unless the more showery precip now in south-west Wales somehow makes it this far east, which looks unlikely.

Looking very poor for the E midlands at the moment based on the 18.00 radar. The E flank is weakening which is what happened on Monday. I reckon because the surface temps are much colder in the E this is causing these systems to weaken.

Still I will be delighted if nothing falls as I will retain my snow cover till xmas day.

Hmm, not so sure about the turning to sleet and rain thing. Reports from other people suggest the snow just gets lighter until stops. Anyhow, getting heavier here now, settling without a problem!

So far this is going as forecast, for East/North Midlands it was always forecast for lighter precip to readily turn to sleet/snow for a time throughout the evening and overnight.

I wonder if any showers from the SW will make it here. NMM seems to think so. :)

According to the forecast Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire were supposed to get 5-10cm...

This makes up for Saturday though :)

The reason is very simple. The beavier precip hasn't reached the E midlands yet. Let me explain this another time.

Using the Met O radar as an example if you havce blues/greens over your region then it will be rain or sleet. For this to turn to snow you need the yellows. The simple reason is the situation is marginal you need the heavier precip to cool the temps thus meaning the rain turns to sleet and then to snow. Watch how in your region once you move out of the yellows your snow will turn to sleet and then rain followed by a thaw.P.S the area of precip that will hit me is still around Luton.

I disagree with it turning to sleet then rain. Here, the snow is turning lighter and now stopping without any transition to rain. There are no mild uppers behind this band that would turn the backedge to rain plus the West Midlands i greatly helped by altitude with much of the region above 100m asl. Much of birmingham is in fact 120m asl plus.

Definitely going on a bike ride to Castle Ring in the morning. If it's like this at 150m then 250m should be fun! :)
