Model Thread, another part of this forum:

https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/82281-model-output-discussion-14th-jan-12z-onwards/

Gets a bit overloaded when the weather gets wintry, but some of the more knowledgeable ones put their thoughts in there.

Lol... just watched the bbc forecast online and the sound carries on for a few seconds after the video finishes. I wonder what she's up to... :cc_confused::rofl:

Cheers Hairy Celt!

In the model output it seems some sort of cold spell is on the way. Is this some sort of freeze? Or will it be like now and only confined to higher ground? Still heavy rain here outside.

What time frames is the model you are looking suggesting cold spell?

Maybe I have picked up what has been said in there wrong in that case?

Very windy now with very high windchill according to young Mr Northernlights who has just put his car undercover.Currently 2c

A few photos from lunchtime showing the wintry view to the north across the Firth with clear blue skies and snow to sea level.post-2744-0-65764100-1421269257_thumb.jppost-2744-0-17859200-1421269269_thumb.jppost-2744-0-77486200-1421269281_thumb.jppost-2744-0-43038500-1421269293_thumb.jp

Itis very much looking like from tomorrow night it will be cold for at least a week with potential snow events...and too my untrained eye a lot less marginal with some extreme nighttime temps forecast early next week which must be modeling snowfields to create that temp profile.....will leave it too others to talk of the finer details

Just landed at Edinburgh. Very choppy final decent although winds were stronger when I left monday lunchtime. Direction was SW monday aligned with the runway, but SSE this evening which makes all the difference as a cross wind!

Happy to be on the ground. Now where's all this snow?

Better get up the road quick if you are coming back to Dundee. Pheeing doon at 3.2C just now and what is left of the snow is pretty wet. Take a left at Perth and head North if you want to see some decent cover.

That pressure chart for Sun looks very interesting Norrance, bit like the ones from the good old days in the 70's and 80's...long way off yet though...

Currently heavily raining here - diminishing the snow.

Have attached a couple of pics taken this morning.

Is it raining with you Ed? I notice Dunkeld still reporting medium to heavy snow at 0.2C just up the road. Cold seems to be hanging in around there. Not sure about further North?

Edit I see Aviemore showing rain at 3C

Plenty to be positive about BFT... :cold:  :cold:

Edo that sledge slope picture is brilliant, pictures telling a thousand words and plenty of joy has been had there. Loving the golf course pic too OTR, great light and shadows. The thread has been magic for photos the last few days, really good to see, even the sideways ones.

Wind howling, and rain battering away. Pretty weird to think this is our mild 'blip' and it gets filled with a bomb low steaming through.

Amazing charts, it's hard not to get excited when the output is this good.

Who was it that went for a cold hearted winter ??

It's the dreaded long fetch easterly Lorenzo! Those of us on the immediate east coast shudder unless 850s are at least -10c and surface winds not too strong!

Been a good couple of days: impressive snowfall for a few, decent snowfall for others and of course some of us are yet to see snow on the ground.

Personally I'm feeling confident about seeing some snow at the weekend. That's because I won't be in Crail but 220m asl in Lancashire. ;-)

Blustery wind, 3.8/3.1C and 5.5mm of rain since 6pm. Funny how all of that rain managed to get through the Cairngorms but none of the snow did.

A rather interesting 18z GFS run tonight but I'm not going to let myself get excited, not yet anyway.

First run of the upgraded GFS has me in sub-zero air from Friday till the end of the run. Which seems a bit fishy to me, I've never seen this before. I reckon someone needs to have a quick adjust of the controls before the Highland Council decide the gritter drivers need waking up.
