17.9C at midnight...Metoffice had us at 20C

It's about 5am it's getting light now. Better than the 3.30am it was 6 weeks back

Give it just a month then it'll be dark when I get up at 6am 😞 Comes round so quick

An overnight low of 13.2C here. It didn't actually feel too bad overnight, although nights will be getting slowly warmer over the next three days so I'm not sure that will remain the case over the next few nights. However, the shorter days are notable compared to three weeks ago, and hopefully sufficient to allow for more cooling overnight to take the worst of the sting out of this heatwave. Another clear start to the day, temp currently 14.9C.

That sounds heavenly! If it weren't for work commitments etc, I'd happily relocate to the Lake District.

Europes Summer high cell centred over The Southern Pennines this morning. That must be an usual occurrence!. Looking good for the NW for the rest of the week with lots of hot ☀. Maybe those temps not far off the countrywide maximum over the next few days as a longer land flow develops across the region .

Remarkable how wet it has been really here compared to the rest of the country- such a sharp drop off south of around Stoke. Seems we've been quite unlucky in some ways as we've been right on the border of an incredible summer but just missed out. Making up for it now though to a degree.

Yeah definitely. To be fair though south of Manchester in particular has had a fairly decent summer so far - you could argue the best of both worlds some heat & some rain. The situation in East Anglia & the SE won’t improve I don’t think until way into the Autumn.

Yes these slightly longer nights and shorter days seems to be doing the trick with dropping both the outdoor and indoor temps. Any diurnal heating is now competing with increasing darkness. A month to 6 weeks ago and it would have been absolutely roasting indoors with barely a drop off at this time.

It's the airmass and not the daylength! I said it on one of the other threads- there were single figure mins in the hot spell of 2018- right at the peak of summer.

The day length or solar radiation hasn't dropped sufficiently yet for this to be the main cause of the cooler nights.

It's a very clear airmass with low dew points and almost windless- right at the centre of a large area of high pressure. We'd get similar mins if we had this setup in early July.

Sunshine hours haven't been fantastic though- Rostherne (near Manchester Airport) was below average for sunshine in July. We've just missed out a few times with the cloud clinging on in westerly flows, while 50 or 60 miles southeast it's been clear and sunny.

31c & ☀️here in sunny S Cheshire

Hot, hot, hot 🥵 but that dry 2018 style heat thankfully. August 2020 from memory had a few hot close to 30c days that felt worse due to high humidity & v warm tropical nights.

Probably will reach 31.5-32c here today, 32-33c tomorrow & then 33-34c Saturday, Sunday around 31c with the potential of more hazy cloud & higher humidity so not actually feeling that much cooler until Tuesday at the earliest.

Not sure if my sensor is correct. Says 24 degrees exact now.. yet all forecasts went for 26-27 degrees by this stage of the day.. it may well be a couple of degrees out. Indeed Keswick is currently 26 degrees. We are usually slightly cooler than Keswick but not by much. Can't see up to date figure for Kendal.. always a good barometer. We are often a degree colder than Kendal.

31'c today and noticing that this heatwave feels much more oppressive than the last, with a few 'spot' fires here and there caused by careless folks flicking their cig-ends out of cars and on-to grass verges but thankfully no major moor-fires to report (yet) as i'm occasionally looking out the window which offers views down the Goyt, Brown Knoll, and parts of the Kinder Plateau.

I don't think you quite get what people have been saying and have misinterpreted people. We've lost 2 hours of daylight since the solstice, without a shadow of a doubt that is enough to see a slight difference but it's enough for some relief now. The sun rises later (takes longer to warm up) and sets earlier (cools down a bit quicker). I can see this with the temp sensors in my house. That might be very sad for you but that's the reality of the situation close to mid August. We're approaching Autumn now.

32° here, east Cheshire, last nights min was 14° from about 3.30am.  Bedroom thermometer stayed a steady 25° throughout the night, woke a few times but not feeling as uncomfortable as July yet.  Will go for another late evening walk again and catch another sunset.

The temperature reached 32.4C here about 30 minutes ago. The humidity, although not high (35% right now), is a little higher than the last heatwave I think, which would explain the more uncomfortable feel some are reporting. The house is like an oven right now with fans blowing hot air at me. It will be interesting to see how much the temperature dips away again tonight given the shorter days.
