An overcast start with drizzly rain here, 10.5C. Things do look set to dry up as we move into this afternoon though.

You can bet if it had been winter this band wouldn't have gone further north than forecast and be hammering g Staffordshire with snow!

Going back to @Alexis comment earlier, if this was winter, we'd be buried by now. Hours of heavy snow.

Suns out now and no more racket from those huge raindrops on the roof of the car.

Radar has a few areas of interest that might track our way aided by the heating now the suns out.

A vile day to be out anywhere let alone volunteering at a local churchyard as i've been doing since this morning, although given the weather most of the time was spent sheltering in the car listening to Jeremy Vine on the radio. As soon as we decided to call it quits and headed home the rain finally abated with the sun now making an appearance. On the plus side it looks to be a pleasant weekend with a very small possibility that the BBMF Lancs will be doing a flypast over Ladybower.

Cumbria place to be today it seems. Lightest spot of rain at lunchtime otherwise it's been a dry day, good sunny spells but quite cool with a westerly breeze.

Sun only broke through here after 3pm! Was a bit of a washout before....I do like our variations in this country though. Hoping we can still catch some warmth next week but this seems to get downgraded by each run. Still looks ok for the far SE corner surprise surprise.

Yes normally other way round Cumbria sees worse of conditions in NW as you move further SE through region towards Cheshire, Manchester and Peak District marked improvement. Not always though when features move in from the SW or south and stay clear of Cumbria as seen today, or in easterly airstreams when we tend to see best share of sunshine along with the coast. Many a day though take a ride up the M6, the cloud cover envelops you just north of Lancaster, the drizzle and low cloud as you enter Cumbria, and turn off on A591 and it gets progressively wetter the further north you go...

Nice afternoon. Just sat in car between Woodley and Gee Cross.

Windows open and watching the plane on approach to Manchester.

I was heading back yesterday from N Yorkshire and I was told that there was heavy showery rain in S Cheshire during the morning, clearing to a sunny late afternoon when we arrived home. No rain today but quite a cool wind despite the glimpses of the sun.

Another so so day.. its stayed dry  so far but rather alot of cloud, some brief spells of sunshine. Rain expected later in the evening.  Quite a breeze about again taking the edge off things, temp maxed out 15 degrees which is bang on average for mid May. Whilst reasonable May can and often does deliver much better than this! Whilst very much a Spring month, given our springs seem to start earlier and earlier certainly by the latter third of the month there is a sense of very end of Spring and an early summer vibe takes hold. Indeed I always feel a marked change in things by around 20-25 May . Its Mark's the start of the best period of the year, promise of summer on the way.. and often coincides with first real warmth of the year. This year there may a bit of delay in that feeling given bank holiday has moved to a later date.. it equates to the same feeling around Oct half term and clocks go back. Not as pronounced though..

A couple of light showers during the morning and few spots of rain at times in the afternoon but a fair bit of sunshine in between.

a coolish breeze though and it feels more like mid April than mid May but certainly could be worse.

It was a breezy day yesterday, but dry with some sunshine at times. If it had been a month or two earlier, probably would have felt decidedly chilly in the wind, but was pleasant enough out for pottering around. It looks like the breezy conditions will remain with us today and probably another dry day in this part of the region at least with some sunshine at times later. We'll lose the breeze tomorrow with a very warm and sunny start to the weekend in prospect with temps easily into the low 20s tomorrow.

Not a bad forecast for the weekend but earlier in the week we were being drip fed almost heat wave conditions whereas now, certainly up here I’d be surprised to see anything beyond the high teens.

a few storms in the mix to keep some interest though.

never mind it’s only mid May, plenty of time left for hot weather.

An annoying strong breeze that has been a feature all week taking the edge off the feel of things.

Aye strong winds seem to have been a feature of April and May over the last few years and often just take the shine off otherwise decent conditions.

Some serious heat building over Iberia at the end of ECM & should that get shunted north we'd be in the fire. Meanwhile in Nuuk still snow on the ground.

Wind seems to have dropped this morning, a hazy sunrise and current temp 10°.  Quite misty over the hills as seen on Cat cam.

Aye noticed that myself.

Hardly a breath of wind this morning whereas yesterday evening it was rattling the conservatory roof.

It’s looking like a day working in the garden so hopefully it stays dry, tomorrow maybe not as straightforward.

Regretted putting a jacket on to go to the paper shop this morning. Passed a chap from my estate on the way and he muttered something like "enjoy it before the thunder storms tonight". Has he been looking at the Storms thread I wonder?!
