The reason for more colds being around is simple. The poor weather means more people indoors like you are more likely to catch a cold at a cinema or restaurant than at the beach or out hiking.

How I miss last summer. Even those 35c days weren’t too bad. Much better than the rubbish from this summer.

Am inclined to agree, being cooped up indoors for long periods isn’t very healthy. I do wonder if some people ever leave their house?

Canary Islands, but unless you're on Tenerife or one of the summits in Gran Canaria / La Palma island, probably won't see snow in your life again if you stayed there permanently.

Thunderstorms aren't very common, but you'll probably see one or a few each winter. Not the biggest variety of weather there, and it stays completely dry most years outside of October - April on the eastern islands.

Well this summer has been as about as much use as a plasticine pogo stick. The sooner it packs i'ts bags,  and foxtrot oscar the better as far as I'm concerned. Here in the S.W it's been absoloute gash since the end of June.

Yeah this cold is a humdinger alright - probably the worst I’ve had in quite some time.

I felt a bit better on Friday but absolutely awful again yesterday and finally a little better today - went down tesco to pick up a prescription which was a mistake. Thought I was going to faint in the queue.

The cough is rank - feels a bit like bronchitis.

Are you sure it's not coronavirus?

I am  annoyed by the fact we experienced a terrible spring to go with the terrible summer. In my experience a poor summer often follows a magnificent spring early summer. By that I mean warmth in April and May. This year apart from June which depending on where you are located produced varying outcomes from briliant to just 2 or 3 weeks of warmth it has been utterly depressing. I've given up on it now and wish it would do one. At least if it's wet lwindy cloudy cool in autumn it's no great surprise.

There’s a new variant going around yes.

However, there’s something else going around and has been for a couple of months. Flu like illness, starts with a fever and body aches and progresses to a really bad cough.

Someone I work with had it 6 weeks back, had to have a full week off work. She said it’s the worst she’s felt in years. Didn’t even have the energy to watch TV.

Or a poor spring can be followed by a wonderful summer, such as 2013, and 2018 to an extent, had a poor early spring.

Trouble is it’s been wave after wave of these stronger than normal respiratory viruses doing the rounds since the pandemic. People describing it as ‘the worst cold ever’.

I’m inclined to agree with some of the scientists’ views that COVID has caused immune disfunction in people and we’re just not fighting run of the mill cold viruses off as easily as previously. What was once a mild sniffle has become more troublesome.

Australia are having a torrid flu season this year and there’s a real concern amongst some that the N hemispheric winter will mirror it, I believe.

Did she test for Corona then?

Yes, several times. Negative.

She went to the doctors she felt that bad with the cough. Doctor said it’s a viral infection doing the rounds.

TBH I’ve never heard as many coughs in summer when out and about as I have this year.

And the JCVI have made cutbacks on how many people they jab.   A very problematic approach that'll be costly.

Think that different regions are having what you mentioned worse than others, in Bedfordshire we seem to be not too bad with germs, although I did hear people coughing quite a bit when I went to football yesterday.

Instead of being jabbed I will top up my vitamin d instead and also people have allegedly had nasty reactions to being jabbed as well.

We’re seeing a lot of usually seasonal viruses peaking at higher levels out of season this year.

I believe there was a later than usual peak to the noro season too.

I think stopping jabbing people is very risky especially the under 65s, now I'm not sure if even the treasury sort of implemented that decision to the JCVI, but I think they want us to live with germs.

Could be wrong though but at the same time I may have a point.  Never had norovirus and don't want it either.

As I understand it they’re going to focus on giving the flu vaccine to school children. This is sound thinking IMO as it’s usually schools and educational establishments that are hotbeds for such things…which then spread to the wider population.

Pretty sure it’s a nasal vaccine in that age group, which should make it easier.
