Anything coming for North West do you think?

Doubtful, totals don’t look likely to cause impacts given the majority of moisture is coming in from the east. It’ll be wet, but probably not warning worthy.

For the RED warning area, the topography is essentially the steep rivers and burns of the Angus glens pouring into the Strathmore valley and running East to the North Sea in the Rver North Esk

One good thing is that the Strathmore valley is pretty wide and flat so plenty areas for the flood waters to go.

What is that!

They should put an extra tab on the top to cycle through wind and rain etc. only... because when all the different types of warnings start to overlap each other it becomes very confusing.

For a change it looks like other areas will be getting the worst of it. There will be some rain but it won't stall like in the warning areas.

Rainfall down here on the southern coast is a massive 0.8mm!

It's certainly not what was forecast.

Heavy rain was supposed to start circa 4am. There's only been a few bits & pieces of drizzle.

Hold your horses! The heavier stuff is about to land.

Whilst the thread is about the severe weather and warnings, one impact of Babet is strong SE wind.

Today this is bringing really gusty Lee winds to the west of the Pennines and a foehn effect, raising the temperatures.  Also some tell tale stationary wave clouds (lenticular).

Very pleasant here today in the sun and sheltered from the wind.  Seems wrong to say that with Red/Amber warnings and those impacts.  But from a weather watching perspective it is really interesting to me.

Yep, they're going to stay a feature for today and increase later as well.

Tonight:

Some exceptional gusts possible in the north and west of Scotland tomorrow too, along with severe gales elsewhere in the north and northeast.

It has landed and we've had 1.6mm in the last hour down here under Babet outer bands.

There could be quite a bit more over the next 3 hours or so. I've noticed that rain from the south is often poorly modelled. It's often a case of radar watching.

It's falling on dry ground, at how heavy some of it looks, might be a flash flood issue.

Talking about the SE warning specifically, it's very wet up in the red warning for sure.

Worth also bearing in mind is that it will be coming up against the tide which will be possibly higher than forecast due to the wind. Within the Strathmore valley however there are towns that will be at risk, Brechin,Forfar and Montrose where water could pile up in the basin with nowhere to go

Oh god yeah, I haven't even looked at that, of course might even be some surge up the river, as wind is blowing up it.

Middleton in Co. Cork in a bad way to say the least. This was an orange warning area. Lots of Cork area flooded

I know Midleton well. Never seen such widespread flooding there before. Usually just the rd beside the river. .😞
