Which is, IMO, the most important thing. 🤔

Aye, to me this is a good GFS, even as a snow lover, we're miles away from foul Atlantic lows

Day after day there were a few people here posting the Ensembles with much delight, but again as I said before they can go just as wrong the next day, and so they have! An almost complete u-turn!

I don't know what you've been looking at, but they aren't the ensembles that's for sure!

In fact, based only on your post, I'd say you were looking exclusively at the more recent GFS operationals.

Unfortunately the model thread is increasingly full of the usual suspects seeing a wobble from the GFS (which ain't the best model) at 200-and-something-hours and thinking it's all gone wrong. At least there's some balance in there from the more experienced and level-headed posters who can see the wider picture.

Sounds like there's already some concern about Hadley cell influence, imagine the absolute backlash if yet another cold spell got massively downgraded.

I have read JH note this morning and viewed a number of other posts form pro- Met folk

so pleased that is very unlikely we will a have a severe cold spell.. many people need to dry out so that last thing we need is another bad weather event. Our heating bills are shockingly high as it is

so no backlash from me ! Anyway predicting snowy weather on 200 plus GFS charts is very niave but still it happens !

Will be carnage when UKMO/ ECM starts backtracking

Might need this approach to get into the MOD if that happens:

Just wanting to follow up on the note at the start of this thread and now at the top of each page in here. I understand when a group of people come together, online, offline or whatever, we're not all going to get on, enjoy each other's company, will have clashes of personality, opinion and so on. But, this and other threads on the community cannot be used to moan about or criticise other members.

There is the facility to block other members posts (I know it's not perfect with quotes etc, but it's still helpful), there's more info on how to do that here:

Beyond that, if you're thinking someone is trolling or disrupting things, please do report their posts, it's the quickest and best way to draw the teams attention to potential issues.

If you do have any additional concerns or ideas you'd like to discuss, please head over to the private team contact forum and message us - all threads in there can only be seen by the person starting them along with the team:

Two Major Winter Storms are coming, over on other side of the pond.

Of course, it's gone pear shaped, but i think the reliable time-frame is no more than around 5 days at the moment

I don't see the point of dreaming in the long range

The latest models are looking great for Scotland over the next two weeks. Nothing much to shout about for England & Wales though. Maybe February will bring better winter fortunes for us all.

Fascinating discussion over in the mod thread, it will be repeated again and again if you have missed it this time around, on the length and severity of the upcoming cold spell. Mind its not due to start for another ten days 🤯

Who is announcing this to loved ones?

I refuse to jump yet....

I have a sledge in a box in the garage, not used since its purchase two years ago on the basis of charts that held so much potential.

I promised myself  I would bury these feelings and let nature take its course.

Darn the internet

I think it’s great we are now into this potential cold snap/ spell. I think some people are not seeing the woods for the trees. The cold air has arrived! 🥶🥶❄️. Ok no snow yet, hopefully it follows. ⛄⛄❄️

The public must be wondering what a ‘cold weather Alert’ actually means? According to BBC a few days of chill then ‘Quote’ Helen Willets latest TV forecast “Temps eventually recovering later next week”

So that’s 2 days tomorrow and Monday of temps of 4-6c then near on double figures approaching later next week.

Other countries must laugh at us
