This has been a real big let down for me, i wish i hadn't watch sky weather so much and believed them. i thought i was going to wake up to a lot of snow and not one flake did i see. now it's melting really fast..i feel like sky weather really hyped it up.

Is there any chance of snow for my next week in the thurrock area?

Takes me back to '96 when BBC forecast a huge dump and woke to zilch...

Just spotted a few flakes, almost covered what we had last week whistling.gif

Nick Sussex, having read your informative posts for the last couple of years, do you think the thaw has begun as per the comments on metcheck or is this a slight blip. wallbash.gif

Disgraceful performance from the Meto, last 24hrs. To think their chief was praising their short range abilities on the news yesterday, is even more laughable.

It's throw away your thermometer time!

Running the model for the next 7 days the temperature just stays between 1 and 3'c. No real change, night/day day in day out.

Cold but not that cold, no frosts, no "proper" snow, just mucky, cold and miserable feeling.

Just my humble'

Also have some light snow or snizzle. Hopefully we may get something substantial later to make everyone feel better

Well there is likely to be a continued slow thaw of lying snow during this week as we have lost the very cold upper air temps, however this will be somewhat mediated as the flow turns more east and possibly se later on, much depends on cloud cover regarding overnight frosts.

Snow will always hold up better with a drier airmass,as for any further snow possibly a little more today and some fronts may try and approach from the sw during the week, the surface flow looks favourable if these do get close enough to produce snow away from coastal fringes.

The continent will remain cold and as long as the se remains with a flow from east to se then it will still stay on the cold side.

Sounds spot on to me. Let the SW have their cold/mild battle and prepare for possible reloads.

Yep agreed. Countryfile says snow for Central south and south east from tuesday to thursday , temps 2 to 5oC generally throughout, no frost at night, with

temps staying around 1 or 2oC at night. We are gonna run out of grit for sure if it does snow for 3 days solid !! Front will stall NW SE on Thursday and then fizzle out as a

Col forms over the UK on Friday.

So ice likely to be more of a problem this week than last. The snow was still 'dry' and hadn't melted last week, so ice wasn't such an issue. With temps above freezing all week the snow will thaw and freeze overnight. Grit is definitely going to be needed this week!

I'm taking the Countrytracks forecast with a massive pinch of salt, if theres any left. They got it pretty wrong last week, nothing to say they'll get it right this week. Personally, I think areas such as Wales, the West Country and parts of the midlands are going to get hammered midweek, can't see much here.

I think to call what's happening here in reigate as a 'thaw' as i did earlier could well be wrong... yes, some snow is melting, mostly off roofs and cars and the road looks a bit clearer, but there's still 6 inches of snow in my garden... that is going to take a few days to shift if the temp remains around 1c!

I hate SW london you BIT**!!! its 3.5C here and basicly All the 2 inches of snow we ever had is gone....

i'd say cold spell over for me after no snow last night and now looking on the verge of rain. forecast looks like sleet or rain for here. [note SW london is terrible for snow]

I'm hoping the Met Office predict a very long period of mild weather coming in from the West, as this would imply that another big-freeze is just around the corner.

This has to be the fatest downgrade in history, with the likes of J Holmes /MO etc.. all forecasting the big freeze to go on another 10 days, only the GFS

saw the thaw coming and even they didnt think it would start for another couple of days. Quite amazing that nature can have the last laugh..

really big thaw going on here ,it's all slushy crap now. 23cm of slushy crap. to think it was lovely, perfect dry snow yesterday! and occasional rain/sleet showers too

23 cm of slushy crap sounds exciting compared to my 1cm of watery slushy crap

did anyone get any snow last night?

As many have said this morning, i too am very dissapointed at the performance of the met office, BBC and more so Sky News weather. For 3-4 days Sky had snow all day today, Monday and showing showers on Wednesday - they were even ramping it up!!

As there is such a downgrade AND for them to not even turn round and say "we got it wrong" seems a bit off. Before i get jumped on for slagging them off, what i will say is that if i do things wrong in my job, i get my knuckles wrapped. I know its not an exact science but i still find it hard to fathom with the super computers they have got and more importantly that human touch JH and NS have highlighted previously, that they still got it so badly wrong.

I am a huge snow fan and theres nothing i want more than 24 hour heavy snow falls, blizzards and drifting but i for one would not mind a bit of a let up in this cold and snowy outlook, even if just to get back to be able to play football!

Here's hoping for developments down the line. Were only in January and there is still debate as to whether February will produce cold or mild. Anyone whos interested then read GP's fascinating posts in the in depth model output discussion thread.

Anyhow, here's hoping for another snowfall soon, whether it be tonight, tomorrow or next week and if not lets have a few days break before a reload to let the country recover. I hope that the met office etc perform better than they have of late and everyone gets what you want.

Convection over the North kent coast at the moment moving STILL all points SW- although im expecting a turn west in + 3 hours-

expect the same places as the last 4/5 days to get a peppering of showers- nothing substantial though-
