We got to 37°C at 15:03 and hit 38°C at 16:00.  Inside temperature when weather station console sits is showing 28°C but that's my office and have a fan on.  Upstairs feels a lot warmer.

Well it's location dependant. Diss may be cooler than SE london where it is 39 in the shade. personally i would prefer the record is not broken for all sorts of reasons. but mainly medical ones as i have not long come back from my local shops where i had to do cpr on an unfortunate person suffering from the heat

the shop next door is a chemist; no defibrillator, along the road; a GP surgery; no defibrillator 😞

glad my 1st aid skills have just, possibly, saved a life 🙂

No defib in a GP surgery???  All GP surgeries MUST have an emergency trolley with defib and a portable oxygen tank.  It's mandatory and they would fail a CQC inspection without that in place.  I'm wondering if they have one but something got lost in translation? i.e. they couldn't release it to deal with something down the road that ordinarily the ambulance service would cover.  Not a good reflection on the GP surgery - I'd expect better from one of mine in the area I'm responsible for.

Apologies to  MAF for not saying well done to you for helping with CPR - not easy in this heat as I know from experience - and hope the ambulance arrived before you exhausted yourself.

Temperature has stalled at 36c in Peterborough thanks to mid level cloud, in fact there might even be rain falling from some of them, not reaching the ground though.

Well done @MAF for executing CPR in an emergency and in this heat. Local Wunderground stations are reflecting the ebb and flow of the high cloud, dropping to 35.5 then back up to 36 around Surbiton. Went out for our lunchtime walk and it was definitely hot; we do a lot of walking in these sorts of temperatures in Cyprus, but have the sea and/or air conditioning nearby for a cooldown. Felt sorry for the guys laying a driveway plus some more working on scaffolding, hope they were managing to keep their body temperature under control or they too could end up in need of medical care.

32.3c now on the Sussex coast 1 mile from the sea.

Cloud cleared and unbroken sun again in the last hour.

It's impressive how only a mile can make such a difference in tempreature...it's 6c warmer than directly on the coast

top tip, open the attic door as heat rises and it will make the upstairs a bit cooler, albeit in these temps only by a degree or so 🙂

Herstmonceux at 31c and shoreham beachside 26c, we are in the lee of the Downs slightly so have a minor foehn effect I think in a SE flow.

38.1 in Suffolk

And absolutely horrible! No sea breezes to help, in trying to find a positive, least humidity is relatively low, still no comfort in knowing tomorrow will be hotter still. Gonna take a while for the cool down from the west to reach the east coast 🥵🥵🥵

Local stations here reporting temperatures of 32 degrees, which is a good deal lower than elsewhere in Suffolk. Think we have been saved by being only 10 miles or so from the coast, and also with the breeze being from that direction.

Strange thing around here ..I've a  cloud, not seen many really ..seems extensive enough to stop sun for a while if not the temperature 🤔

Having dropped to a temperature of 34.1c under milky skies, the cloud has cleared and it's now back up to 35.8c. I've a feeling some very hot maxes are likely tomorrow. But a convective storm would be nice if the heavens could just rustle something up:)

barely seen any clouds here today besides the weak wispy cirrus clouds, definitely hot out there and i've already got signs of heat rash from just being on the lounger under the shade too, so i've just had a cold shower to hopefully not get any worse

42.2 on the sensor in the shade. might not be accurate but even if it is 5 degrees out that's still nearly 38 in the shade

Its dropped to 37.8°C here and granted its not a significant drop from 38 but breeze has reduced so it feels hotter now 🥵

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
